U.S. Regions Map
Here is an example of what the students should have for their map. They should also include a key listing the regions and the color they used for each.
(Do not write over each region, as shown in this map. Make a separate key on the side of the map.)
Open House
Open House will be Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 6-7:00 p.m., in the classrooms. At 7:30, Mrs. Burch will meet with parents for a short assembly.

Here is the list that students should be practicing, in addition to their weekly list:
They took a practice test today – ask your child to see their paper. We will take a test (for a score) next Friday!
Howard 5th grade t-shirts
Order forms are due to me by Friday, September 23rd.
Here is another form if your child misplaced theirs.
Happy Labor Day Weekend!
If you are like many Howard families, you went to Howard’s front doors to verify your child’s placement for this coming school year. If I am the lucky 5th grade teacher to have your child … hooray! I do not take this responsibility lightly. I truly love my job as a teacher and look forward to a great year with your child and you!
Tuesday and several days this week we will simply be getting to know each other, review school procedures, and practice routines.
Many of the needed supplies will be distributed in school. I have taken care of purchasing most of the notebooks, folders, pens, and a case. I will send home a list on Wednesday for the rest of the suggested supplies. If you can’t get them, please do not worry. I will take care of them.
If you need to contact me, please pop in either in the morning or immediately after school. Or send me a quick email at AlbertA@dearbornschools.org.
I look forward to a great school year! Woo hoo!
Happy Dog Days of Summer
Hi There – I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I have had a few parents email me asking for a supply list for their up and coming 5th graders. We cannot confirm who is in our class yet. At Howard, the class lists are typically posted the Friday before Labor Day Weekend. At that time, you might want to check back here, or on Mrs. Dearth’s or Ms. Martin’s blogs for our requested supplies. For now, all of us request looseleaf, pencils, colored pencils, a homework folder, and kleenex for the classroom. Additionally, if you are out at Costco, they have Clorox Disinfecting Wipes on sale this month. (I prefer GreenWorks as it is less dangerous to the environment, but would appreciate any donations.)
Enjoy August! Take care!
Unit 11 Math Assessment
The district math assessment for unit 11 will be Monday. It will be on volume of regular and irregular rectangular prisms, and multiplying & dividing fractions (both with equations and drawing pictures).
This was all reteaching. This will be our final assessment.
Summer Learning on iLearn
Mrs. Stergalas and Mrs. Dunleavy helped all 5th graders set up their iLearn accounts so they can practice and retain their math and literacy skills over the summer.
