First Week

Posted by Ann Albertson on August 31, 2019 in Class News |

We had a great first week of school. I passed out our books and some of the supplies I purchased for the students. The remaining supplies are listed in the tab above – please try to get them purchased for your student by Tuesday, September 3 so we can get our binders set up and start on curriculum.

On Tuesday, we start our NWEA testing. This testing is important for me to I can get some baseline data on the students (strengths, weaknesses, etc). I received their M-Step results this past week (from the test they took in May 2019), and that gives me great information, too. There isn’t anything for your student to review or study for the NWEA. Please make sure they get a good night’s sleep and breakfast so they are focused.

I assigned the first lesson in Zearn last Wednesday. I will be assigning a lesson per night on Zearn, along with regular homework from our Eureka Math workbook “Succeed.” It is VERY important for your student to stay current on Zearn and homework. Please make sure they have enough time to get both done daily.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me via email or phone message: 827-7212 or AlbertA@dearbornschools.org

Have a great weekend!

Happy 1st Day!

Posted by Ann Albertson on August 26, 2019 in Class News |

We had such an enjoyable first day! The students and I all agreed that the time passed very quickly. We barely broke the ice on getting things done today, so tomorrow we will work on passing out the rest of the supplies from me, and getting into routines.

If you are going supply shopping tonight, please click the tab above (“Classroom Supplies”) to see what is needed for your student.

We have the earliest lunch at 11:05, so we will have our snack in the afternoon. Please stick to fruits and vegetables. (Nothing requiring a spoon either, please.) The students can have a water bottle in class, too, so remember to send one.

Please remember to subscribe to my blog by entering your email in the area to the right. You will get emails alerting you to new posts.

Email me with your questions and concerns.

I look forward to a great year. Thank you for all you do at home to support the learning here at Howard. 🙂

Welcome!

Posted by Ann Albertson on August 24, 2019 in Class News |
Welcome to 5th Grade

Welcome to a new school year and 5th grade! On Monday we will meet each other, get to know each other a bit, get started on some routines and expectations, and receive some supplies. You might decide to get some supplies this weekend in anticipation of our year together. If you could, please purchase the following:

Student Supplies Needed

  • 1 homework folder (your choice of design, color – but NOT a binder nor a trapper keeper)
  • 1 set of colored pencils (you don’t need more than 8-10 in your set, and no markers or crayons are allowed)
  • #2 pencils (either mechanical or those needing sharpening – but get extra lead if you are getting mechanical)
  • 1 pencil case for YOUR pencils
  • 2 sets of binder divider tabs (we have binders in the classroom to use – the divider tabs will keep our work organized)

Extra for class use:

  • Boxes of tissue – we will need several from each family throughout the school year but please don’t bring them until I ask for them as our classroom is very small and I don’t have much storage space
  • Disinfecting wipes (a “green” brand please – either “Seventh Generation” or “GreenWorks” brand)

PLEASE do not purchase:

  • a trapper keeper/binder – we do NOT have any extra room AND you simply don’t need one in the 5th grade
  • A backpack on rollers … again, we don’t have the room for a larger backpack

I might have forgotten something. If I did, I will let you know on Monday or next week.

Have a GREAT weekend. And relax … it’s going to be a great school year!

District Directive: Parents Should Update Emergency Information Online

Posted by Ann Albertson on August 22, 2019 in Class News |

The Dearborn Public Schools has added a new feature to ParentConnect that allows parents to directly enter their child’s Emergency Information before the start of the school year instead of paper forms.

Please log onto ParentConnect from a computer. You will not be able to update your information on a cell phone or i-pad. If you don’t have your login information, click on the “Need Your Login Information?” text found on the Parent Connect page.

Once logged in click on the “Back to School Registration and Emergency Form Update,” found at the top of the page to the left of My Account. Please update the emergency information, which can be done by clicking Review/Update Info on the right. Once there, you’ll have the ability to update your information as well as your child’s information.

Please make sure to follow the directions at the top of each page. The “Back to School Registration and Emergency Form” Update will show until August 25, 2019; after that date, online re-enrollment will close, and paper emergency forms will be printed to parents who did not complete the information online.

One More Week

Image result for welcome to 5th grade

I can imagine the feelings for parents and upcoming 5th graders. Please try to not stress, and try to enjoy your last week of summer vacation.

Parents – please do not buy all the supplies you think your 5th graders might need. The three fifth grade teachers do not have the same supply lists. For my class, not many supplies will be needed. I will post a supply list on Friday. I hope everyone has a great week!
