“Planner” Tab & 5th grade T-Shirt Order
I started a new tab up at the top for our homework. Please look there in case your student didn’t fill in their planner accurately.
Also, as we do each year, we will be having a 5th grade T-Shirt for sale. Please see the attached paper for information and color choices:

Math Assessment – End of Module 1
Please make sure your 5th grader is studying and reviewing for the end of the module assessment on Monday. We reviewed for 2 days but students need to practice at home, too!
A Great Cause
Mrs. Shadia Hamka, one of our Howard moms, emailed the Howard teachers to let us know of this collection. Plastic caps and lids are being collected to be recycled for a bench in memory of the Dearborn Schools’ student who passed away last year.
Please read the information on the image below and send in when you have the items.

Assessments
The Social Studies Unit 1 assessment and the Mid-Module Assessment for Module 1 in Math will be Monday, September 30th.
We have been reviewing. Students are expected to review and study this weekend, too.
IMPORTANT! Student Planners, Homework, & Notes
If you attended the parent meeting before Open House, you heard me strongly suggest that instead of asking your 5th grader if their homework was finished, I suggested you look at their planner AND ask to see the completed work.
There are quite a few students who are still struggling with adjusting to being in 5th grade with the routines and responsibilities. While I instruct them to write things specifically (1) they don’t always follow directions, and (2) they don’t open their planner to check what to do once they leave school (it seems).
Please help them with this by (1) asking to see their planner (2) looking in their homework folder for the notes that are mentioned, (3) looking to see the homework is COMPLETE.
These simple routines with accountability will help them a great deal.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you!
