Google Hangouts

Posted by Ann Albertson on March 24, 2020 in Class News |

Parents – I had created a “Google Hangouts” for our class a few days ago. Unfortunately, a classmate wasn’t meeting district guidelines with core value appropriateness, so I made the decision to delete the students out of the application. Several students made private “Google Hangouts” with each other though since then, just so you are aware. Many of our classmates are very respectful and appropriate, but it would be a good idea to check that out to be certain for your own child. Thank you.

Happy Tuesday! Thank you to those students who re-submitted their “friendly letter” after revising and editing. Some of you have yet to complete it (or anything!!) Get to work! I will be looking them through again – you might get yours back. If that happens, please revise and edit it.

Please keep up with the posted work. Scroll down to the previous days and see what you should’ve completed. Make sure you are following Google Classroom. Many of you have shown GREAT growth this year – and it you don’t exercise that muscle in your skull, it will start to weaken.

  • Help around the house!
  • Read 30 minutes
  • Math Module 6 lesson 6 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OftWsb0fvbc, Learn and Succeed problems. Zearn Module 6 Lesson 6
  • Topic A assessment (quiz) will be posted on Monday in Google Classroom – review lessons 1-6 this weekend please. We have learned much of this prior to our extended time away from our classroom because our work in MathWarmUps. HOWEVER, it is very important for middle school math. Please review lessons 1-6.
  • Reading: Think About It “What would happen if trees disappeared from the world? Pages 78-79 What do you think about when you see the photos on these pages? Where is this photo from? Read the shorter passages from pages 80-81 (1) Tree-rific (2) Trees At Work (3) Top 5 Most Common Trees
  • The reading passages above will lead us nicely to our last Science topic for the last card marking – Earth’s Spheres (Biosphere, Hydrosphere, Geosphere, Atmosphere). This is a favorite Science area of mine. We will talk about life on the planet, how everything is connected, how a change in one causes a change in the others – and aren’t we experiencing that now!
  • Science: video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4TnPv_b6WU. In your Science journal, put a heading on a fresh sheet of paper for “Earth’s Spheres.” Pause the video as you go through it. Take notes as you go through the video, as we would in class. This video is just an overview for us. We will learn about each of the spheres in more detail soon.
  • Have a good weekend … be kind to your family and most especially your parents.
  • Give yourself a high-five from me

Many parents and students are not keeping up with the work. While it is being called “Enrichment,” students are still strongly suggested by administration to complete it.

  • Math: Module 6 Lesso 5 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be39i550HO4, Learn and Succeed problems, Zearn Module 6 Lesson 5
  • Reading: “Treasures” p. 72-75 “The Tales are Getting Taller”; answer the “Connect and Compare Questions” #1-3 on a Google Doc and submit it through the assignment in Google Classroom. Use strong, complete sentences, proper punctuation, and correct spelling.
  • Science: Mystery Science https://mysteryscience.com/school-closure-planning TWO short activities (1) How do things glow in the dark? (2) How deep does the ocean go? Set your science journal up, just as we do in class with the heading for each activity at the top. Answer the questions as Doug poses them. Pause the video and answer the question(s) completely.
