Zearn: Student Work

Posted by Ann Albertson on December 12, 2019 in Class News |

We started Module 3 today and it was painful. Students were trying to rush through the questions I had for them on equivalent fractions (ex: 1/2 = 2/4, etc.), rather than focusing on what really was happening with the pictures we had (splitting something creates 2 of it, splitting it again created 4 of it, etc). I have shared with all of you that I used to be a Middle School Algebra teacher. If certain ideas were not important to our foundation, we could rush through them. However, these beginning lessons go through steps very deliberately and slowly to strengthen the fraction foundation. For this reason, MOST students were reset on Zearn back to Module 3 Lesson 1, even though many students had completed lessons 3 and 4. I am able to see their individual progress, successes with questions, AND (many) mistakes. I understand your schedules are busy and I know you have many commitments. This, too, is important. I want their success to be long-term, not simply for the sake of completing something I assigned.

Thank you
