CAMP for Fourth Graders
We have 60 students going to camp and will be using 2 small buses to fit all of us! We are sending home 2 different fundraising options, Little Ceaser’s Pizza Kits (Orders due November 6, delivery of Nov. 25) and Celebrating Home (Orders due Nov. 13, delivery first weekish of December). You can do both or choose one. If you are attending camp, the amount you raise will go directly toward being deducted from the amount you owe. If you are not going to camp but would like to help us lower the overall cost-that would be great! The amount you raise lowers the cost of the buses for everyone. All of the information about each of the fundraisers is on the packets coming home today. We need help accepting the delivery of the pizza kits in the cafeteria on November. 25. If you are able to be here in the cafeteria to accept the order and begin getting it organized, please let Mrs. Cornejo know, her number is on the packets. Thanks in advance everyone!

Week of Oct. 7-11
Reminders for this Week:
MEAP Testing starts tomorrow! Third and Fourth grade will take the Reading test on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Fourth grade will take the Writing on Thursday.
It is very important that all students get good rest at night and eat a good breakfast to be ready for the test.
No School–October 14, 15 and 16.
We are learning:
Spelling–There will not be a spelling list this week or the week we return from break because we are testing.
Daily5/CAFE–Our focus this week is text features and identifying their purpose. We are also working on main idea and details in informational text. Students also chose their individual goals and will be working during Daily 5 on their goal using their strategy. Your child should be able to tell you the strategy they are using. We are also starting book club with students in groups.
Writer’s Workshop–We just finished our narrative piece and will be working on a short compare/contrast informational piece this week.
Math–For the past weeks, students have been working on review of concepts. We will be starting into the Everyday Math towards the end of the week. There is a new online component with the Math this year, that you will be able to access at home. Look for information to come home soon!
Social Studies–Both grades are working on Geography and Regions–Third is focusing on Michigan and Fourth on the United States. Third grade is learning a lot of map skills. Our focus this week will be Human and Physical Characteristics.
We have also been sampling our Michigan products! If you are willing to donate a Michigan Made product, please let me know!
Have a good week!

Week of September 23-27
Reminders for this week:
Pink shirt/Peace Day–Thursday–Wear your pink shirt to show your support!
This week we are learning:
Spelling–Students are working on their individual lists of high frequency words. If students get the word right on Friday’s test, they highlight the word on their list. If a word is wrong, it will be on the next week’s list of words. Please be sure to practice each night.
Daily5/CAFE–Reading assessments are being done and will conclude this week. Students are working on some Reading MEAP review of strategies. This week we will be describing literature by exploring various texts within the genres. We will also examine text features of non-fiction books.
Writer’s Workshop–We are working on organizing our writing using sequencing words. Students will also be taking the District Writing Prompt this week.
Math–Currently we are reviewing concepts and working on test taking strategies. We are focusing on Measurement this week, including length, time and money. Please work on reviewing these concepts in your everyday life at home.
Social Studies–We just concluded Constitution week! Students learned a lot about citizenship, government and elements of the Constitution.
Both grades will be working on Geography. 3rd graders will be focusing on Michigan and 4th graders, the U.S. We will learn about each in terms of their absolute location and relative location. The 5 themes of Geography will also be discussed.
I will be alternating with Social Studies and Science, but will spend a couple weeks on both.
Both 3rd and 4th graders will be participating in Michigan Made! We sampled Better Made Corn Pops this past week. If you are interested in donating a Michigan Made item, we sample products on Fridays and we also share with Mrs. Rosenau’s class. If you find an item and would like to donate, please let me know! This is a favorite of the students!
Have a sunny week!
