Pennies for Patients!
“It’s that special time of year again….Pennies for Patients! It’s time to collect pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and dollars for kids with cancer. Our goal is to raise $1,700 this year and beat our total of $1,635 from last year! We will be collecting money from March 18-29. Our class has an online page you can donate to as well. The link is provided below. Across the US and Canada, millions of students like yourself raise funds in honor of local patients. Friends, family and neighbors can all contribute to the classroom and school totals! By participating in your school’s program, you and your classmates will be making a huge difference in the lives of patients with blood cancers. You will be joining millions of students across the country who will raise funds to find cures and therapies for diseases like leukemia and lymphoma.”

Reminders for the Week of February 25-March 1st
Math Night tonight 5:30-7. Your child will be taking you through our Math program, so you know what it is like to complete the Math. This will be very helpful and hope to see everyone there!
March is Reading Month–Reading Month starts on Friday! Students will be getting a book to bring home for our One School, One Book reading for reading month. Just like in the past, students will be reading the book at home and we will be having questions about each chapter announced by Mr. Attee. Please be sure to support your child with this reading! It is a fun book. Some of the students have read the book, but it can serve as a refresher and good practice for their fluency!
If you are interested in reading to the class, please feel free to let me know. You can jot a note in your child’s planner with a couple choice of days and times that work best for you and we can work out a day and time. The students love to have their parents or relatives read in their classroom!
Also, Book Fair starts next week!
Last reminder—Please signup for Martian Marathon! It would be great to see lots of DuVall runners!!
Happy Reading!!

Week of February 19-22
A HUGE thank you to all that sent in treats for me for Valentine’s Day! I enjoyed much of them over the long weekend. It was so incredibly thoughtful of everyone!
Also, a giant thank you to parents and students for an amazing field trip to Henry Ford Village last week! I am so proud of the kids—they deserve a giant hug!! I was so impressed with them as they interacted with the residents at Henry Ford Village. It brought tears to my eyes! They were so incredibly sweet with anyone they came in contact with. The directors at the Village were so impressed with the kids as well and are asking that we return! I hope your child shared their experience with you. Many of the kids met a woman who was 102! I am working on pictures that can be shared and will get those out as soon as possible.
Thanks to the parent drivers and chaperones as well. We could not have done it without you!
Reminders this week:
Astronaut Assembly—Thursday 1:00
We have finished with the NWEA testing and many of the students showed excellent progress. Remember to make sure your child is reading each night and working on strategies we use during reading CAFE. Your child can even keep a notebook at home to respond to what they are reading. It is very helpful!
Math–We are working on finishing up the Mid-Module assessment. Students took it in parts and we also have several students who were absent and need to complete the assessment as well.
Reminder to make sure that your child comes dressed for the weather. Whenever possible, if temperatures allow, we will be going outside for recess.
Have a wonderful week!!

Reminder for DOVall Club
Hello!
This a note from the DOvall Club letting you know about our next service project. We will be collecting hand warmers for the Congregation for Every 1 charity. We will be collecting these items starting Wednesday, February 5th through Tuesday, February 14th.
( https://www.coe1.org/ ) This is the link to their page and below is information about this Detroit based charity.
“Founded in November of 2013 by Jeff & Mary Hocking, the COE is made up of a group of volunteers who have come together in order to better serve the homeless population of metro Detroit and surrounding areas. We are 100% privately funded. As Federal Funding for homeless outreach has dried up over the last few years, we are one of the only homeless outreach programs left in Detroit. In a world of nonprofits that operate like corporations, the COE is a true volunteer only owned and operated charity. Since 2013 the COE has been providing 200 Survival Packs to the homeless on the streets of metro-Detroit every single month. We pack school-style backpacks with basic supplies needed to live on the streets; warm socks, winter hats, ski gloves, scarves, compact blankets, underwear, along with hand warmers, toiletries, toilet paper, lip balm and lots of non perishable food items. We do not set up a table in a park downtown and wait for the homeless to find us, we’re pro-active and spend hours seeking the homeless out wherever they are in the city.”
We would like to thank you for any donations of hand warmers to support this wonderful charity!
