Week of March 23-27

I decided to break down this week into subjects with activity ideas and assignments. I am hoping this is easier for everyone. I am able to check their progress on Readworks, Zearn and Freckle, so they should be utilizing these sites. It is important that they are utilizing all of them for practice in different areas not just focusing on one subject.

So far, parents and students, you are doing a fantastic job! I just want to make it as easy and understandable as possible. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

These are activities you should do each day:

Reading—-Read chapter book of your choice for 25 minutes. In a notebook or on a google doc, write a response to your reading. Practice different strategies: predictions, summarizing, asking questions, character traits with evidence . You can share your doc with me or hold on to your notebook, to show when you return.

Do your Readworks assigned article (one a day) and answer the questions, submit.

Math—Do Zearn for 25 min. Everyone should be on Module 5 Lesson 5 by now. If you are not there, you have some catching up to do this week.

Monday–Lesson 5 Tuesday — Lesson 6 Wednesday– Lesson 7

Thursday-Lesson 8 Make sure you work watch the videos and work carefully. Email me if you have questions about a concept.

You can also work on Freckle and do flashcards (both multiplication and division).

Writing—Continue researching your informational topic. Use a piece of loose leaf paper and fold it into four parts. At the top of your paper, write your topic. For example: France, tigers, Jane Goodall…. In each of the four sections write your subtopics. Start collecting your research (Monday and Tuesday).

Thursday-–Use first two sections (subtopics) to create a good lead and write two paragraphs in a google document.

Friday-–Use last two sections to write your last two paragraphs using good descriptive details from your research.

You will edit and revise and share next week!!

Social Studies

TBD

Science

Do one Mystery Science activity a week.

Fourth Grade — Birth of Rocks

Third Grade — Stormy Skies

If you come up with some of your own activity ideas as extension, please share with me. I will post pictures!!

Any extra time? Do more Freckle and Zearn. You can always work ahead. Get outside everyday if the weather is nice and play games. If you do something interesting or fun, share with me, so I can share with your classmates.

I am so proud of all of you! Keep up the good work and keep smiling!!

First Week!

Well, we made it through the first week!! I want to thank all of the parents for help with this new process. I know it can’t be easy, especially if you are also keeping up with your own work! I have received so many positive comments and it is so appreciated.

I hope everyone enjoyed a nice Saturday and were able to get out for a walk! It really helps a lot to get out in the sun! Students can have more relaxing time on the weekend, but read and get back to it on Monday! I noticed a few of you did Freckle today, on a Saturday!!! Great job, Lara, Quinn, Leo, Abel!!! Others of you rocked out a bunch of Freckle activities with a variety of Math and ELA. Super job to all of you! I am so proud of you!

If you do anything that you would like to share, send it to me! I am going to be posting some things next week. Payton, Sereen and Marcel sent me some pictures that I am going to share! I would also like to share any positive comments, so you can share with each other!

Keep Smiling!

Zearn and Readworks!

Wow! I just checked on your progress and many of you are working through the Zearn lessons! Remember to watch the videos carefully and take your time with the questions! You should be doing at least a lesson a day. Many of you are doing more! Super Job!

I will score your Readworks passages and send out how you did. Are you looking for text evidence? I will also assign some new passages. The government text I assigned recently goes with our next Social Studies unit for both grades!

In addition, I would like you to start working on your informational piece we started in class. You were researching your topic using four subtopics. You can continue that at home using Google Docs. Great job, Mariam for starting on yours!! Keep going and share your document with me 🙂

Thank you!

Hello everyone! I hope we are all hanging in there! I miss seeing you all everyday. I want to thank all of the parents for all of your efforts in helping all the students keep up with their work. I know it is not easy (and many of you are still working yourselves) and your work is greatly appreciated.

I haven’t sent a lot of emails just yet, but students can check their email by logging in with their student number @dearbornschools.org. There is a link to student email on the Dearborn blog. Their password is their birthday (two digits for month and day, four for year).

Keep up the great work!

Readworks

Remember that Readworks should be utilized. It has great passages and questions for you to practice using the text for evidence. I just assigned two passages on government (one for third and one for fourth). You can also complete the assignments you didn’t finish during Daily 5.

Remember to login as a student with our class code. Notify me if you can’t login. I tried it from home, so hopefully it will work.

I have noticed a lot of you are working on Zearn or Freckle. Try to balance by doing both ELA and Math.

Lastly, parents–I know this is overwhelming, so if you are confused by something, the kids can work on those few things. The schedule is a guide, meant to be helpful, so adjust as you see fit. I actually created a simple schedule with my own child, so we had some bit of routine during this crazy time and it has really helped. We just blocked out time for each subject and included free time, games, puzzles and outside activity.

MOST IMPORTANTLY—STAY SAFE AND HAPPY!
