Writer’s Workshop–We finished our animal stories using various forms of transportation. We will be sharing these this week. We should be able to get in one more narrative writing piece before the end of the year.
Math–We are currently finishing up fractions and will have an assessment by the end of the week. We will finish up with some work with Measurement—Length, Weight, Temperature etc. and look at the units and tools used with each.
Social Studies–We are learning about Economics. Students have been doing a great job with Michigan topics.
Science–We just finished with our living things unit with our animal assessment. We will be wrapping up with some fun science exploration.
Can’t believe we are nearing the end!
Have a great week!!

Lansing Reminders
Parents,
A paper copy will be coming home today, but here are some reminders for tomorrow’s trip:
Students need to arrive at school at 7:50 a.m. The bus will leave by 8:00 a.m. so we can arrive in Lansing for our scheduled tours. Students should dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring a bag lunch with a drink (no glass bottles, please). Please make sure everything is disposable because students will not be able to carry food into the Capitol or the Historical Museum. Students may also bring a disposable camera if they wish.
We will arrive back at school by dismissal time.
Looking forward to a great trip.

A Couple Things!!
The permission slips for Field Day and Yogurtopia are coming home today (They are front to back). Parents are welcome on both! Field day also needs parents to help with the events. If you would like to walk to Yogurtopia and have yogurt with us, parents will pay $4 as well.
For the Lansing trip–More details will follow, but some parents have been asking about the trip. We are basically all together as a class group the whole day. Mrs. Alabakoff’s group will tour the museum first, while Ms. Morrison is at the capitol and after lunch we will switch locations. We stay together as an entire group through the capitol, with a docent that provides all the information. At the museum will will basically stay together, unless we do not have a docent. In that case students would be with their chaperone, but not far from each other. Both third grade classes will eat lunch together.
As always, thank you for your support!
Enjoy the long weekend!

Please make sure your permission slip and money are turned in by tomorrow. We will have Ms. Cathy pull names to determine which five parents will be going on the trip. Thank you to all those who volunteered. I will let you know by Monday if you were chosen to chaperone.

Week of May16th-20th

Friday–Field trip to Greenfield Village. Thank you to all parents who have volunteered to chaperone. We will be leaving at 9:30. Please make sure your information is updated in the office with Ms. Cathy.

Veteran’s Hospital donations still being accepted
We are learning:
Spelling–No unit this week
Daily 5/CAFE–We are finally back to our routine since all the testing is complete. All groups started a new book for our book club. The students did a great job with a variety of projects for the last book club. We will also continue to work on individual goals and strategies.
Writer’s Workshop–Working on District Writing Prompt and will then get back to our other piece of writing using voice.
Math–Reviewing for Unit 6 test (mostly on Geometry, but also some multiplication review). We move around with units, so numbers of units don’t necessarily go in order. Assessment will be Wednesday. Students should be prepared because we have done a lot of review in class.
Social Studies–We are finishing up our study of the Growth of Michigan with the Automobile Industry.
Science–Assessment for Animals this week will be Thursday. Students know a lot about animals!! We even compared and contrasted two animals of their choice and created a poster. Lots of learning and fun!!
Remember to turn in your Lansing permission slip and money. As soon as we receive them all, parents will be randomly selected for the trip.
Thanks for all your support!
Have a happy week!

Lansing
Permission slips for Lansing are coming home today. All the information is included on the slip, but if you have questions please feel free to contact me. As the permission slip states, we can only take 5 parents for each class, so if we have more than that, we will have to draw names.
This trip goes perfectly with what our 3rd grade students are learning about Michigan!
Looking forward to a great trip!
