Multiplication

Although we are working on Measurement, we still continue to work a little on Multiplication facts.  I would like the students to master their facts before next year, because I feel life will be a lot easier for them!!

We are going to be taking fact quizzes each week and will be creating Multiplication Ice Cream Sundaes eventually.  Students will start with 2’s and when they pass them that will be their ice cream.  Each additional fact will be a topping for the ice cream.   It is very important for students to practice the facts at home, so they can be successful.  I know many of the students already know them quite well.

Today I am also sending home a game we played with partners.  The directions and game board are included.  The students had a lot of fun!!  It is just one fun way to practice, but students will need to do other things for additional practice.

I hope this helps!

Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Just to let you know, you will be receiving your child’s tests most likely by the end of the week.  We have had students out sick, so there are some makeups that need to be done before I return the tests.

Spirit Week

I hope everyone enjoyed the snow day!  I know we did!  It was great weather for playing in the snow and making snowmen and forts.  Great packing!

Reminder — Please make sure your child dresses for the weather.  We will be going outside for recess if the temperatures do not dip too low.  Students need snow pants and boots to play in the snow (which I know is a favorite), so remember to pack them.

Spirit Week is this week– Ugly Sweater Day is rescheduled for Monday next week, tomorrow is Penguin Day — DuVall Spirit clothes or black and white day,  Wednesday is Pajama Day,

Thursday–Sports Team Day  Friday–Twin Day

Math Assessment

The Math Assessment for Unit 4 — Multiplication and Division will be on Friday.  Students have the study guide with all the information needed for the test and we have been doing a lot in class.  Be sure to practice writing the word problems.  Examples on the study guide are good and you can also make up some on your own.

Ex.   Mrs. Alabakoff has 3 bags.  Each bag has 7 marbles.  How many marbles does she have in all?

Or   Emma has 36 candy canes.  She wants to share them with 4 friends.  How many candy canes does each friend get?

Some of the students can also use multiples of ten for their numbers and are also being challenged with larger numbers.

Practice those facts too!!

Hope this helps!

Science and Math Assessments

Yesterday your child should have brought home their Science Folder with a study guide attached to the front.  Students can start reviewing materials for the test on Tuesday.   THEY NEED TO BRING THE FOLDER BACK TO SCHOOL BECAUSE I WILL BE LETTING THEM USE THE FOLDER FOR THE TEST!

We have done a lot with Earth’s Materials, so your child should already be very familiar with the information.

We will also be having a Math Test for multiplication and division next week as well–Date to be determined.

Students will be bringing home the study guide and should also return it to school so we can continue to review in class.

Thank you for your support!

(No Title)

Dear Parents,

Our class and Mr. David’s class will be going to The Henry Ford with our Kindergarten reading buddies on Wednesday, December 14th to see The Polar Express 3D. We will be leaving school around 9am and returning by 1:15pm. We will be taking a bus to the IMAX theater at the Henry Ford Museum. We will be attending the 10am show and then eating lunch. Please send your child with a bagged lunch with their name clearly labeled. Everything in the lunch needs to be disposable- we will not be bringing any food/containers back with us!

Students who wear pajamas will also receive a free small popcorn.

We will need 4 parent chaperones per class. In the event that we have more than 4 volunteers per class that would like to chaperone, we will randomly select parents.(Giving preference to those who have not attended a field trip yet.) We are doing this because of limited space.

The cost is $9 per person (students and chaperones) and is DUE BY 11/28/16.
