We are learning:
Spelling — This week our focus is blends. We will be making connections with other words in that have blends (fl, st, sl etc.) . Students often look for blends in their books and in their writing.
Daily5/Cafe–We should be finishing up our study of fables/folktales this week and will move on to myths. Students are doing character analysis using the characters in the fables and folktales. We will be using graphic organizers to compare/contrast characters in the stories.
Writer’s Workshop–Students are finishing up their “room” stories by adding linking words and more descriptive language.
Math–We are working on subtraction of numbers to 1000. We are also doing number stories using both addition and subtraction. Students are learning various strategies for solving these problems. Students who master the concept move on to more challenging problems.
Social Studies — A BIG thank you to the Saylors for the McClure’s Pickles. We enjoyed them! Many of the kids even liked the spicy ones!!
We will soon be finishing up with our study of the Geography of Michigan. Our focus this week is how humans use and modify the environment. We will also discuss reasons for movement to and from Michigan.
We are going to also encorporate some of our Science concepts into Social Studies by looking at Earth’s resources. Students have been bringing in various rocks and minerals from Michigan. We will explore the properties of these rocks and minerals as well.
Have a wonderful week!
