Can you believe it’s already November? The school year is off to a great start and we’re into the second card marking. Students have been learning keyboarding skills, book care, how to search for book in the media center, and parts of a book. We also studied enjoyable and educational books including “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson, “Creepy Carrots ” by Aaron Reynolds, and “Diary of a Worm” by Doreen Cronin.
Last week we heard the tall tale of Johnny Appleseed. This week we are hearing the fiction story “Space Case” by James Marshall.
Students are practicing keyboarding skills using programs including Space Invaders, Cup Stack Typing, and Jump Keys. Keep up the great work everyone!
We’ve been in school almost a month now, and autumn is finally here. Students have all checked out books from the media center and we’ve started working with computers during media classes.
All students come to the media center with their classroom teacher and our media secretary helps them check out books. Students in grades 1, 2, and 3 come to the media center once a week for class with me. They will learn how the media centers are set up, how to locate books, appropriate use of technology, research skills, and other related skills.
This week we heard the stories, Hansel and Gretel, Knuffle Bunny, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We’re also learning or reviewing how to log on and off of the desktop or Chromebook computers and beginning to learn digital citizenship.
I hope everyone’s school year is off to a great start! We’ve been working on beginning of the year tasks including seating assignments, classroom rules, and procedures.
Be sure to stop by the Scholastic Book Fairs at Lindbergh and River Oaks schools. They have a great selection of books and the book sales support our schools.
Have a great week everyone!
Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is ready for another great school year. I’ll be at Maples Elementary School on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesday mornings. I’ll be at River Oaks Elementary School on Wednesday afternoons and Thursdays, and at Lindbergh Elementary School on Fridays.
The first two weeks we will be working on procedures and beginning of the year activities. We used the books Froggy Goes to School by Jonathan London, Rocking in my School Shoes by Eric Litwin, and The Smushy Bus by Lois Heloski to help explain school rules.
I look forward to working with our students! If you ever have any questions, just send an email or message. Looking forward to a wonderful year!
It’s been a great school year! We’re down to the last few days. We’ve studied many different books, learned keyboarding on the computers, learned how to write computer programs using code, learned how to make Google Drawings and save projects into our Google Drive, and that’s just a start of our year!
I hope everyone has a fun, safe, and relaxing summer. I look forward to seeing all of you in the fall.
STEAM Week!
Last week was STEAM week throughout Dearborn Schools. STEAM integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics- integrates. We used the book “Not A Box” as the basis of our lessons where we used our skills, imagination, and tools to design new items and build structures. Great job everyone!!
Students have been doing a great job reviewing technology skills taught throughout the year. Next week we will be working on a STEAM project- integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. We will be using the book “Not A Box” for the foundation of our projects.
All library books are due back now! We’ll check everything in and then start sending out overdue notices. Everything has to be turned back in before the end of the year.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Earth Day
Monday was Earth Day, and we discussed the importance of taking care of Earth. Students brainstormed ideas on how to keep our environment clean. We referred to the National Geographic Kids website, then made a Google Drawing project for Earth Day. The project had to include a text box, lines, shapes, and colors.
