Enjoying this beautiful day!

I hope that everyone is enjoying this beautiful sunny afternoon!  The sky is a beautiful blue, and the clouds are whispy and white. These are called Cirrostratus clouds and are very high in the sky.  Listen to the story The Cloud Book by Tomie dePaola.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS5uN0RuIHI .

Click on the link below to learn more about clouds.  This is from the the Worldbook Encyclopedia for Kids in MEL (Michigan Electronic Library), which can be found on the class links on the right side of my blog.

Ready for the long weekend?

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday are officially “no school” days.  Monday is Memorial Day, the day we remember those who died in military service for our country.  This weekend is also the Eid, Happy Eid and Ramadan to all who celebrate!

Guess the book characters

So were you able to identify the book characters made from Play-doh?  Here are the answers I had in mind- the pigeon from Don’t let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, the caterpillar from The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a pig from Elephant and Piggy or The Three Little Pigs, a fish from The Pout-Pout Fish, and a frog from Froggy plays Soccer.  Good work everyone!

Getting creative with some favorite books!

This weekend we had some fun making the main characters from some of our favorite books.  We used Play-doh to make the characters.  Can you guess what they are?  Put your answers in the comment section below and we’ll see how many you can guess.  I’ll put the answers here on Thursday.

Be creative and make some of your favorite characters or scenes from books. You can use paper and pencil, crayons, markers, clay, sidewalk chalk, whatever you like.  Have fun!

Backyard Bingo

Enjoy this beautiful weeknd by playing Bingo in your own yard!  Using the three Bingo boards pictured here as examples, enjoy the great outdoors while developing vocabulary, reading, and observation skills.  Be the first to spot five items in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally and win the game!.

Use a sheet of paper and a pencil to make your own Bingo cards or work with the ones on the screen.  However you do it, have fun!

When you’re done, come inside and enjoy a story from https://www.storylineonline.net/

River Oaks 1st and 2nd grade

Continue to learn where the letters, numbers, and punctuation symbols are on the computer keyboard. Go to CLEVER (the blue and white box on the left of your Dearborn home page), then to the TYPING.COM app. Start at level one, or where you left off at last time we worked on this in class. Try to keep your fingers on the home row keys. You may go to the THEMES tab near the top right of the screen to change the background if you like, you may use any but NitroType right now, that one works a little differently. Just try your best and have fun!
