We studied two books, both fiction but one teaches the life cycle of a butterfly. The other one is a magical story about how fun reading is. Both great selections for March is Reading Month!
We had a very successful March is Reading Month at both Lindbergh and Maples Elementary Schools! Maples students in first, second, and third grades completed a brag tag book where they earned brag tags for six different genres of books! Students at Lindbergh earned tokens for reading books of various genres. Great job everyone!
Have a wonderful Spring break everyone!
Lots of reading excitement at Maples School! In media classes, students are completing at March is Reading Month Brag Tag book. Students will earn tags for reading and learning about various genres of books including fiction, non-fiction, fairy tale, and biography.
Great reading Maples Readers!!!
Lots of exciting activities going on showing what great readers we have! In media students are able to earn charms, which can be used to decorate backpacks, necklaces, bracelets, or whatever they choose. Tokens are earned for reading a fiction, non-fiction, biography, entertainment, and free choice book, along with a special glow-in-the-dark book charm for earning all five. Students complete the forms and bring them to me as they are completed to begin earning tokens.
Happy March is Reading Month!!
We’re off to a great start for reading month. Most classes have also enrolled in Google Classrooms, through the blue Clever button on the Dearborn Public Schools homepage. Students learned how easy it is to enroll in the class, complete the work, and turn it in. This is a nice addition to the Google Documents, Google Drawings, and Google Slides that the students have been working on.
Looking forward to a great month of reading and learning at Maples and Lindbergh Schools! Our theme this month at Maples is Superherows and our theme at Lindbergh is Legos. Assemblies were held at both schools to start March is Reading Month and tell us about the bikes for books program.
Welcome back from mid-winter break. I hope everyone had a fun and restful long weekend!
With all of our snow and ice days, our schedules have been shifted around a bit, but we’re fitting everything in.
This week we’re working on writing and sharing Google Docs and Google Drawing projects. At Maples we use Chromebook computers and at Lindbergh we’re on HP Desktop computers, but the programs all work the same.
Great job everyone!
Blizzard, by John Rocco, is the true story of a 10 year old boy and how he braved the blizzard of 1978 as he walked to the nearby store to get supplies for neighbors who could not dig their way out of the deep deep snow.
The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keates, is the timeless classic story of how a boy and his mom enjoyed a cold winter day.
We have certainly had a lot of cold and snow here in Dearborn this year. Hopefully you are able to stay warm inside and enjoy some good books such as these!
We started the second semester of the school year this week. In the lower grades we are reviewing mouse skills on the computer, including left click, drag, and drop. On the touchscreen Chromebooks we’re reviewing clicking, dragging, and dropping items by using either the touchpad or the touchscreen. We’re also learning that in come cases we can’t work as quickly on the computers at school as we do on computer games outside of school because the computers will freeze up.
Upper elementary grades reviewed their keyboarding skills.
Kindergarten and Young 5’s also compared and contrasted stories about hibernation.
Stay warm!
Can you believe it’s almost the end of the second semester?! Students at Maples and Lindbergh schools have been working hard on their technology skills as well as becoming great readers!
Have a great long weekend, and I’m looking forward to a wonderful second semester!
