Please don’t forget to study for your test on Tuesday. Review nonfiction text features, comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences between fiction and nonfiction, author’s point of view, textual evidence, and the following vocabulary words:
Energy, protein, calcium, strong , build, bones, heart, eyes, teeth, skin, muscles, grow, healthy, and unhealthy.

ELL 1B Oct. 10-Oct. 21
In these two weeks, we learned about how to make predictions about a narrative by looking at the title and the pictures. We also learned how to annotate or think-aloud when reading a text. We learned more about how to identify the main idea in a narrative.

Make sure that you study the meanings of setting, character, theme, and main idea for the quiz. You need to also study these story elements as they are used in “A House of My Own.”
ELL 1B “A House of My Own”
Week of 9/19-9/23
In class, we read ” A House of My Own” by Sandra Cisneros, and we applied our understanding of setting, theme, characters, and main idea to the text. We created a foldable for all four story elements. We learned the following vocabulary words from the text:
Flat, apartment, porch, pillows, petunias, books, stories, shake, quiet, space, and poem. We translated the words and wrote them in a sentence.
Academic Vocabulary ELL 1B
This week we learned about elements of a story and identified them in the stories Daniel Loves the Beach and Icing on the Birthday Cake.
Story elements: title, author, genre, characters (who?), setting (when and where?), plot (what), theme/main idea, problem, and solution.
Vocabulary: Vanilla, icing, delicious, bakery, birthday, cake, bought, beach, and without.
