Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading »

News and Updates

The Halloween Parade is on Friday, October 28. 2016 at _____. Your child may wear a costume. However, masks or face coverings are NOT allowed. You are welcome to join your child at the parade. Also, the office is still accepting candy donations.

September and October Student of the Months will be announced on Friday at 9am. Please keep in mind that only one student of the month is chosen for each month. I select students based on a number of factors, which include academics, behavior, effort, amount of progress made, etc. Please keep in mind that I have 27 students. Therefore, it is not possible for every child to be chosen to be Student of the Month. Plus, selecting a Student of the Month is a great way to motivate students to consistently try their best regardless of if they received Student of the Month or not.

Our class is off to a great start. In language arts, we are continuing to learn strategies that help us become better readers. Small groups are allowing my student teachers and I to give your child instruction based on his/her need. Please continue to read and practice word/letter cards in their reading bag EVERY DAY. In math, we are starting teen numbers (11-19). You may want to help them practice writing and identifying their teen numbers at home. In science, we are continuing to explore our environment using our 5 senses. In social studies, we are learning about concepts that allow us to get along with others and be good citizens.

Thanks for all the support!

Reading Bags

Please ensure that your child is reading his/her word cards OR letter cards as well as any books in the book bag every day. The book bag is to be brought back to school every morning. I talked to them about responsibility and about being very careful with their word/letter cards and books. Please reinforce this at home. Thanks in advance for your support!

Remind App.

The Remind app is a communication tool that teachers use to inform parents about any important news or class updates via text message. In your child’s folder, you will find instructions on how to set up the Remind app on your phone. Hopefully this tool allows for better communication. You may also click on the following link to follow my class instantly. 🙂

Geer Park Penny Wars!

Starting this week, Geer Park will be having a fundraiser to support the upcoming Washington DC trip for 4th and 5th grade. Each class will have a container to fill with pennies. The class with the most pennies wins! The Penny Wars will end on Friday, September 30.

How this will work:

  1. Each morning students will drop their pennies into their own class container. The containers will be out in the morning by 8:10 on a table in front of the office.
  2. Students can also choose to drop silver coins or dollar bills into class jars other than their own, which will then be subtracted from that class’s total. In other words, classes want to collect as many pennies as possible, and avoid getting sabotaged with silver change and dollar bills. For example, if Mrs. Chisek’s class had a total of 75 pennies, and a student from a different class came and dropped in two quarters, this would leave Mrs. Chisek’s class with a total of only 25 cents.
  3. To encourage competition between classes, students are encouraged to compete with siblings, cousins, neighbors, etc…
