Spelling

Dear kindergarten families,

Your child will have 8 spelling words each week. Four of the words will fit a pattern. For example, this week we will study the –at word family. Your child will be given hot words within the –at family to study on Monday. The cold words will be given to them when they receive their spelling test, and will look different than the hot words, but will still come from the same word family. The purpose of the cold words is to see if your child can apply the studied pattern for the week. The last four words will be from the DOLCH spelling list. (Basic high-frequency words). Please have your child practice spelling activities at home. We will have a test every Friday, unless there is no school on Friday. In that case, we will have the test on Thursday.

Thank you,

Kindergarten Teachers

NWEA Testing

Winter NWEA for math and reading will start the week of January 22nd. You can prepare your child by allowing them to use the websites provided on the card in their folders. Please remind your child that this is a very important assessment, as it will measure their growth in reading and math from the beginning of the year to now. Also, please ensure that they get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning. I am confident that your children will do well if they listen to the questions and directions carefully. Thanks again for all of your support!

Websites to use at Home

Dear Families,

We sent home information on a notecard on how your child can log into MyOn, MobyMax, and Education City. These websites, along with others included on the card, have educational activities that your child can use at home. Please help your child log into these websites and have them practice logging in by themselves. It is important that your child is exposed to using technology to enhance learning. We encourage no more than 30 minutes a day. Please remind your children not to lose these cards. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions or concerns. As always, thanks for your continued support.

Have a great winter break!

Sincerely,

Kindergarten Teachers

Gingerbread Men Donation

Dear Kindergarten families,

This week, children will be decorating gingerbread men and participating in an informational writing activity about their gingerbread men. In order to cover the cost of the gingerbread men and edible decorations, we are asking for a $4 dollar donation. This experience will provide your children with a hands-on opportunity to use their creativity. Thank you in advance for your support and thank you to the parents who already sent their donations in last week!

Winter Pick-Up Procedure

Starting tomorrow, 12/13/17, we will not be using the outside door leading to the parking lot for pick-up due to the cold weather and snow accumulation around the door. You may pick up your child from our classroom door inside the building. Please wait on the tile area next to the front office if you arrive before 3:30. You may proceed to the classroom at 3:30. Children will not be dismissed before that time unless the office is notified in advance. Thank you.

Conferences

The first day of conferences will be today, November 9, 2017 from 4:00-7:00. The second and third day of conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 16. Please check your child’s folder for the date and time of his/her conference. I look forward to meeting with all of you.
