A look ahead

We are midway through the school year and your children have grown so much, both academically and socially. It feels amazing to witness all the progress and be there with them to celebrate their growth. Having said that, NWEA testing and classroom reading, math, social studies, and science assessments are complete for the second marking period. If you have ANY questions and/or concerns regarding your child’s progress please do not hesitate to contact me!

PLEASE continue with supporting your children at home. You can do this by:

  • Helping them complete the weekly homework packets. These packets are created to reinforce concepts we will be learning in the classroom for that specific week. Covering these concepts at home will ensure that your children comprehend learning material.
  • Reading at least 20 minutes a night. This is extremely important! Please have your child read (and reread) books in his/her reading bag as well as word cards.
  • Cover spelling words sent in homework packet.

Let’s continue making positive strides with your children and prepare them for the upcoming school year; together we can! 🙂

Holiday Break

Dear families,

Please ensure that your children do the holiday packet over break. We recommend that they do a page a day. In addition, please remind your children to read every day and practice the word cards in their reading bags. This is essential for their reading development. Also, an index card was placed in their folders. On it, you will see suggested educational websites to use with them. Remind your children not to misplace the card because they will need it throughout the school year. Your support is always appreciated. Have a wonderful and safe break!  Happy holidays!

Conferences

Conferences will be held on November, 12, 18, and 19. A reminder will go home this week notifying you of the date and time you signed up for during Open House or the date and time selected for you. Please notify me in advance if you are unable to attend and I will set up another time that is convenient for you. Thank you and I hope to see you during conferences to discuss your child’s progress!

Reading Bags- Clarification

Please ensure that your child is reading his/her word cards OR letter cards every night as well as any books in the book bag. The book bag is to be brought back to school everyday. I talked to them about responsibility and about being very careful with their word/letter cards and books. Please reinforce this at home. Thanks in advance for your support!

Halloween Parade

Just a reminder that our annual Halloween parade is on Friday, October, 30, 2015 @2:00. Children can come dressed in what they like- just no masks, face coverings, or weapons. Parents are welcome to come and enjoy trick or treating with their children. We will be outside if weather permits. If not, the parade will happen inside.

Please try to donate candy bags before Friday. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you then! 🙂

Data Meeting

Dear families,

There will be an important data meeting on Friday, October 16 at 9:00 a.m. It will be in room 106 (your child’s classroom). I will be sharing your child’s scores in math and reading, as well as how their scores compare to the rest of the class. I will also share next steps we need to take to ensure that your child makes progress in kindergarten. I highly encourage you to come to this meeting and look forward to seeing you.
