Learning Plans

Your child’s learning plan has been updated and will be sent home with your child this week. Please review new goals with your child and sign/date it. Place it back in their folders so I can collect the following day. Most of your children met their initial goals! So excited with the progress they have made thus far!  Thanks again for your ongoing support.

Holiday Break

Dear families,

I hope you are having an amazing break with your beautiful children. I truly miss them!

Please ensure that your children are working on their holiday packet during this lengthy break. In addition, please remind your children to read every day and practice the word cards in their reading bags. Two weeks is a long time to go without reading. READ, READ, AND READ! Also, an index card was placed in their folders. On it, you will see suggested educational websites to use with them with their usernames and passwords. Remind your children not to misplace the card because they will need to use it throughout the school year. Your support is always appreciated.

As we embark on a new year, I want to take a moment to wish everyone a happy and fulfilling year. I am blessed to be sharing this year with all of you and your children. I hope you have noticed the tremendous growth they have already made! Their success would not be possible without all of you. THANK YOU! Through difficulties and triumphs, I have no doubt that they will continue to develop into bright, respectful, and loving children. May they always fill your lives with pure joy, this year and every year.

Sincerely,

Miss Abulhassan

Hands-on with gingerbread men!

Dear Kindergarten and Young 5 families,

Next week, children will be decorating gingerbread men and participating in an informational writing activity about their gingerbread men. In order to cover the cost of edible decorations for the gingerbread men, we are asking for a $2 dollar donation by Tuesday, December 20, 2016. This experience will provide our children with a hands-on opportunity to use their creativity. Thank you in advance for your support!

Happy Thanksgiving

To all the families who helped make our Thanksgiving feast an amazing experience for the kids, thank you. They loved it, and it made my day. As I told your beautiful children, Thanksgiving is not just about eating great food, it is a reminder of how blessed we are despite the hardships we may face. It’s about embracing all we do have and appreciating the gift of giving, togetherness, and love. Thank you for allowing me to teach your children. They remind me each and every day why I decided to be a teacher. As much as I give them, it will never amount to what they give me.

Love and blessings to all,

Miss Abulhassan

Parent-teacher Conferences

Conferences begin today (November 10, 2016). You should have received a blue reminder slip in your child’s folder on Monday if their conference is today. The next two conference days are on the 16th and 17th of November. Please check your child’s folder for the date and time next week. I highly encourage you to attend your scheduled conference. We have a lot to discuss regarding your child’s progress and next steps to take. I hope to see you all soon!

News and Updates

Picture day is this Wednesday, October 26, 2016. If you would like to order pictures for your child, please fill out the form and send it back with the total amount of money.

The Halloween Parade is on Friday, October 28. 2016 at _____. Your child may wear a costume. However, masks or face coverings are NOT allowed. You are welcome to join your child at the parade. Also, the office is still accepting candy donations.

September and October Student of the Months will be announced on Friday at 9am. Please keep in mind that only one student of the month is chosen for each month. I select students based on a number of factors, which include academics, behavior, effort, amount of progress made, etc. Please keep in mind that I have 27 students. Therefore, it is not possible for every child to be chosen to be Student of the Month. Plus, selecting a Student of the Month is a great way to motivate students to consistently try their best regardless of if they received Student of the Month or not.

Our class is off to a great start. In language arts, we are continuing to learn strategies that help us become better readers. Small groups are allowing my student teachers and I to give your child instruction based on his/her need. Please continue to read and practice word/letter cards in their reading bag EVERY DAY. In math, we are starting teen numbers (11-19). You may want to help them practice writing and identifying their teen numbers at home. In science, we are continuing to explore our environment using our 5 senses. In social studies, we are learning about concepts that allow us to get along with others and be good citizens.

Thanks for all the support!
