Week 4

As week 4 comes to a close, I have a couple of updates on our assignments:

Tomorrow (Friday, 9/21) is the last day that I will be accepting missing poems or presentations. I give a two-week grace period where I will accept late assignments, and tomorrow is the last day for poems and presentations.

We began our Article of the Week routine today where students learned how to purposefully annotate. If your student did not complete in class the partner portion of the article annotation  (chunk 2), it will be homework for tomorrow. They will have time in class tomorrow to finish chunk 3.

As always, please email me with any questions or concerns!

Week 3

Greetings,

We had a busy week this week as we began to establish a few routines in our classroom. Your students learned a new reading strategy to help them increase their reading speed while also maintaining comprehension, and they began working with mentor sentences to improve their grammar.

Toward the end of the week, we had work days in class for their word part mini-presentations which will be happening twice per week. Check in with your student to find out when their mini presentations are. The artifact for their presentation is due two class days prior to the presentation.

Furthermore, progress reports will be sent out on Monday for students whose absences are currently affecting their grades. Please see my next blog post for a letter regarding our new grading process.

I will also be posting again soon with what your students should expect in the upcoming week!

Have a wonderful day!

Welcome to 9th Grade Language Arts!

Greetings,

Can you believe we are already into the second week of school? I can’t! These past few days with your students have passed very quickly. I am enjoying getting to know them as we work together each day, and I am hoping to get to know you as well. My blog will be a resource for you to see what we are doing in class each week. You can subscribe to get email updates for when I post or you can visit the site when it is convenient for you. I will be posting here at least once per week with updates about our schedule and the incredible work your students are doing.

Tomorrow is our school Open House where you will have the opportunity to walk through your student’s schedule. I will be stationed in room A-14, so please come say hello! I will take some time to properly introduce myself and our curriculum and answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to meeting you soon!
