Unit Test

Vikings,

The first marking period is over, which means we are about to take our very first unit test. This will cover everything we have learned since the beginning of the year. Want to do your best? Here’s how you can study:

  1. Review your instruction book, lessons 1-5.
  2. Review all of the notes we have taken in your “Notes” notebook.
  3. Try as many Khan Academy assignments as you find useful.
  4. Work on the review packet tonight, and get your questions answered during class tomorrow.

The unit test will start at the beginning of class on Wednesday. Please have your review packet completed by then. Good luck Vikings!

Parent Connect/Student Connect

Vikings,

Did you know that your child can instantly access all of their most up-to-the-minute grades at any time from anywhere? They can! Ask them to log on to Student Connect and show you how!

Did you also know that you can also access those same grades without waiting for your child to log in? You can through Parent Connect. Your Parent Connect log-in information was mailed home at the beginning of the school year. If you never received yours, or lost the information, get in contact with the main office here at Smith.

Enjoy staying well informed!

Khan Academy Requirement

Vikings,

Each student in Mr. Zimmer’s math classes is required to complete three Khan Academy “assignments” each week. Each “assignment” is a set of practice problems on a specific topic, such as equivalent ratios, which I have selected and posted for your child. Three “assignments” must be completed by the end of the day Sunday every week with a score of 80% or better. I will update and post new assignments every week.

Lesson 1 Quiz

Vikings,

We will be taking our Lesson 1 quiz about basic ratios tomorrow, Friday the 13th or September. If your child wishes to study he or she may bring home their notes from class, work in our textbooks, or practice their skills using the assignments posted on Khan Academy. Good luck everyone!

3 Minute Speech

Vikings,

Each student in Mr. Zimmer’s math classes has signed up to give a three minute speech to the class. Student names and dates have been posted on Google Classroom, or you can ask your child what day he or she signed up for. Students are allowed to choose any school-appropriate topic for their speech, which is to last three minutes. They are allowed to use any props or visuals they would like, and they have full access to the available classroom technology.

These presentations will be amazing unique, diverse, and a terrific way to get to know each other better. I cannot wait to see what your child has planned. Please email me with any questions at zimmern@dearbornschools.org

Calling All Overachievers!!!

Do you like to be ahead of the curve? Would you like to have a tremendously high grade in math? Do you want to make sure you are even more than ready for the beginning of the school year? Do you have me, Mr. Zimmer, as your math teacher? If so, consider taking the following steps, because the first day of school is right around the corner:

  1. Can you log into you Dearborn Schools email account? If so, do it and see what’s new! If not, don’t stress too much. We’ll do it together during the first week of school.
  2. Check your account’s Google Classroom page. You should see an invitation from me. Accept it and go to our class’s page. It’s awesome!
  3. Make sure you have the following supplies for our math class: two notebooks, folder or binder, pencils
  4. You’ll be required to make or donate a decoration for our classroom by Thursday, August 29th. It can be anything you think would make our classroom look better and brighter. Start brainstorming, or, if you know what you want to share, start working on it!

I look forward to seeing you the first day of school!

Mr. Zimmer
