Monday Message

Happy Monday Vikings! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. Assignments for this week are now posted, so let’s get to work! Please make sure to complete 4 Khan Academy assignments and pass 4 I-Ready lessons this week to make sure your math skills are staying top notch during this extended break.

For Khan this week I have assigned Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple problems. Do you remember what fun those were!? If you’re having a hard time remembering don’t forget to watch the video linked in the assignment. I also assigned two percent assignments from last week that not many students attempted. If you were one of the few who already completed them please don’t do them again. However, “Percent Word Problems” and “Finding Percents” are both critical skills to your success on M-STEP (if we take it this year) and in 7th grade. Don’t just skip those entirely!

Please, please, please do not forget about your I-Ready assignments. It is especially important to complete 4 each week! These lessons will help re-teach things you may have missed in elementary school. Log in to your school email account, go to the dearbornschools.org homepage, click on the blue clever link, select I-Ready, and start learning!

Here are the results from last week’s online learning:

Weekly Winners Circle: Jaelyn, June, Ava, Hamza, Megan

Oh So Close: Maysoon, Mahdi, Abdelaziz, Warren, Luke

Finished with Khan: Maha, Amanda, Hashem, Angie, Isabella, Alaina

Keep up the good work Vikings! Stay safe, healthy, and math-y!

Mr. Zimmer

Online Learning Progress

Finished with Khan Academy: Hamza, Maysoon, Mahdi, Abdelaziz, Warren, Alaina, Naif, Amanda, Hashem, Luke

Finished with Everything: Jaelyn, Megan, June, Ava

So many of you have made so much progress this week! Keep up the good work! If you don’t see your name up here that means you have a little further to go. Don’t forget to finish by the time you go to bed on Sunday!

Weekly Learning Progress

Congratulations to Hamza, Dalya, Abdelaziz, Alaina, Gabe, Naif, and Isabella for starting this week’s Khan Acdemy assignments!

A huge congratulations to Maysoon, Mahdi, Aidan, Megan, Warren, Jaelyn, Ava, and Luke for starting both Khan and I-Ready assignments!

If you are doing the weekly Khan assignments that is great! However, it’s probably not enough to keep your math skills sharp. Please don’t forget to do your I-Ready as well!

Also, I notice that some of us working on I-Ready assignments are starting to run into more difficulty. That is to be expected as you progress to harder math content. If you run into trouble, or have a problem you can’t figure out, send me an email at zimmern@dearbornschools.org. I can still help even though we’re not meeting in person. Good luck Vikings, and keep working hard!

Online Learning Results and Assignments

Welcome to the second week of online learning! New assignments have been posted on Khan Academy, so it’s time to get to work. Did you notice that all the assignments the first week were about ratios? That was on purpose! Week-by-week we will be reviewing everything we have learned in 6th grade math. This week we will be practicing with percentages. Can you predict what we will practice next week?

Also, here are the official results from last week’s online learning:

Weekly Winners Circle (Completed 4 Khan and 4 I-Ready lessons): Hamza, Megan, Naif, Jaelyn, June, Ava

I-Ready Champions (Completed 4 I-Ready Lessons): None

Khan Academy Warriors (Completed 4 Khan Academy Assignments): Marya, Mahdi, Abdelaziz, Isabella, Luke

Honorable Mentions (Lots of learning, but didn’t reach 4 of anything): Hashem, Maysoon, Gabe

Congratulations to everyone who made it into the Weekly Winners Circle! Keep it up and get there again this week?

Is anyone wondering why you’re name isn’t mentioned? Is anyone confused about what your results mean? Send me an email at zimmern@dearbornschools.org and I’ll clarify everything I can.

Happy online learning Vikings, and stay safe and healthy!

Online Learning Progress

The week is almost over. Here are the results so far:

Weekly Winners Circle (Done with Khan and I-Ready) – Hamza, Megan, Naif, Jaelyn, June, Ava
Almost There: Luke, Isabella, Maysoon, Mahdi, Gabe

Don’t forget Vikings, the recommendation is to pass 4 Khan Academy assignments and 4 I-Ready lessons each week. Are you finished? If not, you still have a few more hours left this week! I’ll post the official results tomorrow.

Food Distribution

Dearborn Schools has announced that O.L. Smith will be added as a student meal distribution site starting on Monday, March 23.

Students, parents or a family representative can stop by any of meal locations from 10 a.m. to noon each week day to pick up meals.  One bag will be handed out for each child under 18 in the home.  The Dearborn School student does not need to attend school at that building.  Students do not need to be present, and a designated person can pick up meals for all the children in the family.
The free grab-and-go meals include food for lunch and breakfast.  Meals for Saturday and Sunday can be picked up on Friday.
Six other food sites opened on Tuesday, including Fordson, Edsel Ford and Dearborn high schools; McCollough-Unis; Salina Intermediate; and Woodworth Middle School.
Signage at each site will direct parents and students to where to enter the building.  Food will be near entrances, usually near the kitchen, to minimize the amount of time community members spend in the facilities.

The grab-and-go meals will be served at least through April 3.

Weekly Winners Circle!!!

Congratulations to Megan, Ava, and Naif! You have joined the Weekly Winners Circle for Week 1 of online learning! Megan, Ava, and Naif have all passed 4 I-Ready and 4 Khan Academy assignments. Way to go! Of course, you are always welcome to do more to keep your skills fresh.

Zach, Jaelyn, Mahdi, June, Luke, Hamza, Maysoon, Zuha, Abdelaziz, Marya, Warren, Maha, Hashem, Isabella, and Sam are all progressing very nicely so far this week. You have all done multiple Khan and/or I-Ready assignments so far. Keep up the good work, don’t stop until you have passed 4 of each!

I am very encouraged by the hard work so many of you have put in. Keep practicing daily, and keep your mathematical minds sharp!

Mr. Zimmer
