O. L. Smith Parent Introduction Letter
Dear O. L. Smith Parents and Community Members,
Hi, my name is Nick Zimmer. I am your child’s new math teacher. I am very excited to join the O. L. Smith family, and I cannot wait to lead students on an exciting and challenging mathematical journey.
I graduated from Western Michigan University in 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education. My subject area minors are in Mathematics and English Language Arts. After finishing undergraduate schooling my wife and I traveled to Colorado so she could attend graduate school to become a Physician Assistant. During that time I spent three years teaching middle school math at North Middle School in Aurora, Colorado. I also served as a soccer coach, basketball coach, and snowboard club sponsor. When my wife finished her graduate degree in 2012 we moved back to Michigan, and since then I have been teaching middle school math at Holbrook School in Hamtramck.
For the past six years I have been working to become a well-rounded educator who is able to develop strong relationships with students and be a content area expert. I have spent considerable time developing a student centered classroom that focuses on peer-to-peer interactions as well as drawing from students’ collective knowledge base. I hope to get to know your child well so he or she will feel comfortable frequently speaking with myself and other class members about mathematics. Most of all, I will work tirelessly to make the classroom an environment where learners can feel success through math education.
Thank you for taking the time to read a bit about me. I hope to meet you in person quite soon. Please feel free to contact me whenever you have questions or concerns at (313) 827-2800 or at zimmern@dearbornschools.org. I am certain that this school year will conclude on a high note, and go Vikings!
