Summer Learning Requirements

Vikings,

Summer learning requirements have been announced! Please see the attached documents. The requirements this summer are very similar to last summer. For math, each student much complete 480 minutes of Khan Academy time beginning Monday, June 8th and ending the first day of the new school year. I have assigned all 6th grade math content to your child so it should not be difficult to locate. Just make sure to log in through Clever each time to get credit! Email me at zimmern@dearbornschools.org if you have any questions.

A Reminder From Superintendent Maleyko

Dear Parent(s),

Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.

For a better future of our city, schools, and students , please click on the link now and fill out the census. It only takes a few minutes from your time to make a difference.

Weekly Learning Requirements and Important Information

Happy Weekend Vikings!!! You’re almost there! One more week to go! Finish strong! And there’s also some very important information to share.

First, it has been decided by Dearborn Public Schools that all middle school students need to complete 480 minutes (8 hours) of Khan Academy time during summer break. I will send more information later in the week as to how to best go about this. In the meantime, please plan on completing some Khan this summer.

Second, I hope you’ve heard by now, but the last day to turn in old and missing assignments for my class is Monday, June 8th. I will begin finalizing grades on Tuesday, so any work beyond Monday will be too late. IF YOU COMPLETE OLD ASSIGNMENTS PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED. It is incredibly difficult for me to monitor everything at once, so your email is incredibly helpful for ensuring you get all the credit you deserved.

Third, I don’t yet know what the procedure for report card distribution will be. I will send each student a personal email with his or her MP4 grade and year-end grade for math class toward the end of this week. As soon as I learn anything about report cards I will pass the information along.

Fourth, please consider coming to this week’s Big Blue Button video meeting on iLearn. Like always, it is on Tuesday at 1pm. However, it will not have anything to do with math. I have a new (hopefully fun) activity planned for that time. Arrive on time wearing some good shoes for running around your home. 😀

Finally, all new assignments for this week are completely optional. If you’d like a little something to help keep your skills sharp please give them a try. If you don’t do any of them your grade will not go down at all.

Here are the week’s learning requirements:

  • Monday: Complete and submit all old and missing work
  • Tuesday: Join us at 1pm for a fun Big Blue Button meeting
  • Wednesday: Graphing project (attached)
  • Thursday: Finish graphing project (attached)
  • Friday: SUMMER BREAK!!!!!

Email me if you have questions.

Weekly Learning Requirements and Late Work

Vikings,

Happy Saturday! I hope you’re all enjoying the beautiful sunny weather this weekend. I want to take a moment to let you know that this upcoming week (June 1st – June 7th) is the last week to submit any late or missing work. Because grades are a little different in the 4th marking period I need to begin working on finalizing your grades on Monday, June 8th. Please do not plan on submitting any late or missing work the last week of school. Now is the time to get things turned in! Also, please don’t forget, if you do old assignments please send me an email to let me know. Thanks!

Here are the learning requirements for the upcoming week (June 1st- June 7th)

Monday: Watch the video posted on Google Classroom and do two Khan Academy assignments
Tuesday: Join us on iLearn for a Big Blue Button video chat at 1pm
Wednesday: Do two Khan Academy assignments

Weekly Learning Requirements

Vikings,

I hope you’re smack dab in the middle of a terrific holiday weekend. There are a few changes for this upcoming week, so check out what’s coming your way in math class:

  • Monday: NO SCHOOL!!!
  • Tuesday: Come to the Big Blue Button video chat on iLearn at 1pm
  • Wednesday: Watch the video lesson on Google Classroom and Complete 2 Khan Academy
    assignments
  • Thursday: Complete 2 more Khan Academy assignments
  • Friday: Complete the Google Form “quiz” posted on Google Classroom

Make sure you get to the video chat this week please! It’s very important to the week’s learning because we don’t have school on Monday. Also, there is no I-Ready this week, just 4 Khan assignments and 1 Google Form “quiz.” If you have any old missing I-Ready assignments you can still do them this week. Let me know if you have any questions!

Late and Missing Work

Vikings,

Happy Memorial Day weekend! I hope you take some time off to relax and enjoy some warm weather. I have noticed that some of you are going back and doing some old Khan Academy assignments that were due in previous weeks and old I-Ready lessons. That is ok, and I recommend that you go back and complete your missing work. What I have learned, however, is it is very difficult for me to see who has completed late work. The assignment reports for Khan and I-Ready just aren’t very user friendly that way. I’ll do my best to stay on top of it, but I am asking you a favor to make sure you get the grade you deserve. If you do any late work from Khan, I-Ready, or even a Google Form “quiz” can you please email me and let me know what you have completed? I can see your individual work without too much trouble, but the whole class reports make it difficult to see old late work. If you email me I’ll know exactly how to find it.

I’m sorry to add one more layer of complication to the process. Thank you for letting me know via email if you do any late work. I want to make sure everyone gets credit for everything they do, and this gives us all the best chance to eliminate potential Mr. Zimmer mistakes or oversights. Enjoy the long weekend!

A Message From Mr. Wellman

Hello Vikings!

Just because we are going through this trying time and are stuck at home, doesn’t mean that we can keep up with our fitness! So, I created a Track Google Classroom page for you all. One this page you will find a 6 week @home workout schedule. Many of these workouts you would have seen throughout the track season at some point.
This page will allow you to communicate directly with me as you go through the workout. Share your successes, your struggles, ask questions and motivate each other to keep up with it!
If you go out for a run or walk please notify and get permission from parents. OR TAKE THEM WITH YOU!!

I will be monitoring and adding in my own motivation. IF any abuses this or posts unwanted comments, you will be immediately removed from the group and Admin and Parents will be notified.

We are all on the same team and in this together Let’s help push each other to be our best and help each other through it!
