Content Objective: Students will demonstrate application of types of wave behaviors by using a word sort to construct a tree map and create a foldable.

Language Objective: Students will write to give examples of types of wave behaviors using a thinking map and complete sentences on a foldable.

Chemistry

Content Objective:  Students will demonstrate understanding investigation design by identifying the important aspects of an investigation into diet coke and mentos

Language Objective:  Students will write to describe an investigation by summarizing it using complete sentences:

  • “If ___[ change in independent variable ]____ then ___[ change in dependent variable]_____ because ______[reasoning]______

Scientific investigation

  • View myth busters video segments
  • Identify independent, dependent control, confounding variables

Language Objective: Students will read and write to answer questions about wave actions: reflection, diffuse reflection, total internal reflection, refraction, and diffraction using a unit review and zip around.

  • Unit Review
  • T/P/S
  • Zip around responses

Chemistry

Content Objective: Students will demonstrate creating names of compounds using names of ions and patterns in given information.

Language Objective: Students will write to describe rules about ionic compounds using “If _________ , then ___________ ” and “Names of ionic compounds begin with _________ and end with ___________ .”

Physics

Content Objective:Students will demonstrate application of unit 7 concepts: wave actions by providing responses during a unit test.

Language Objective: Students will read and write to answer questions about types of wave actions using complete sentences on a unit 7 test.

Chemistry

Content Objective:  Students will demonstrate understanding of naming conventions for ionic compounds by summarizing strategies and rules in their notebook.

Language Objective:  Students will write to describe rules about ionic compounds using “If _________ , then ___________ ” and “Names of ionic compounds begin with _________ and end with ___________ .”

Naming conventions for ionic compounds

  • Given basic format
  • several examples of compound symbols, name the compound
