October 20

Good Afternoon Families,

I did send home homework with your child today. Each child has a baggie with the letters in either just their first name or their first and last name. Please sit with your child over the weekend and have them put the letters in the correct order. Then, have them read their name. Finally, have your child touch each letter and tell you the n letters that are in their names.

Once your child knows all the uppercase letters in their first and last name, I will mix in both upper and lowercase letters.

A couple of children have an Alphabet matching game. You and and your child will mix up the cards and flip them face down on the floor/table. You will then take turns flipping over two cards at a time. For example, if you/or your child flip over an uppercase H and a lowercase h then, you have a match and you get to keep the cards. If you don’t have a match then you flip the cards back over and it is the other person’s turn. You will continue to play until all the letters have been matched and whoever has the most matches wins the game.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy your weekend!

Dear Families,

I finished the Sign-Up Genius for our Fall Celebration on October 31st. You will be getting an email with the link and I will also post the link here as well.I am asking for all donated items to be brought in to school by Monday, October 30th. I am also in need of parent volunteers that day as well. If you will be volunteering, I will need you at 1:40 to get everything set up. The Celebration will be from 2:00-3:00.

Here is the link for the Sign-Up Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0E4EA4AE2FA7FB6-harvest1

Tomorrow is our Book Check Out Day. I have collected quite a few books from the kids. Please make sure that you put your child’s book back in their backpack tonight if it is still at your house. Children will not be able to check out a new book if they still have a book at home.

Thank you to all the students who were pajamas today and donated a dollar for Hurricane Irma Relief. The money will go to helping students with supplies that FEMA doesn’t give them.

I will be holding a parent meeting next month to give you strategies that you can use at home to help your child. I will get a date finalized and posted ASAP. This meeting will be different than your child’s Conference set for next month as well.

I almost forgot, this will be the last week your child will need their resting things. We will still take a short rest break after lunch, but it will not require pillows and blankets.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Good Evening Families,

Wednesday, October 18th, will be a “Late Start Day.” Students will come to school at 9:35 instead of 8:35. I will still meet you and your child outside where we normally line up.

I am currently working on putting together a “Sign-up Genius” for our Harvest Celebration on October 31st from 2:00-3:00. If you are able to, you may sign up to donate items for the celebration. I will post a link for the sign-up on the blog as soon as it is ready.  I am also in need of volunteers to help that day. You will need to have a current I-chat (background check) on file in the office.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Familes,

I hope that you are enjoying your day and your weekend. I had a couple of quick up dates.

We will be exploring apples in both Science and Math this week. Students will be using their 5 senses and participating in other apple related activities.  Each child will need to bring 3 apples ( a red, yellow, and green) to school on Wednesday, October 4th. We will be using the apples for a taste testing and graphing activity that day.

Children visited our school library this past Thursday. Please make sure to read your child’s book with them nightly. They will need to bring back their book back to school no later than Thursday, October 5th in order to check out a new book.

There will be not be school for both Young 5’s and Kindergarten students on Friday, October 6th. Teachers will be participating in a Professional Development that day.

Our schoolwide picture day will be on Wednesday, October 11th. If you choose to purchase a picture package, you will need to send in the order form and  money either on or before, Pitcture Day. You also have the option to order online. The steps to order online are outlined on the Picture Day order form. You will not be able to see the pictures before you place your order. We will be having a picture re-take day if you would like your child’s picture re-done. I will post information about that day at a later date.

All Whitmore students will have a half-day on Friday, October 13th. Dismissal will be at 11:30.

Please continue to read with your child nightly and practice uppercase and lowercase letters starting with the letters in their names.
