Hello Families,

Hope you enjoyed the break from school!

Our kindergarten class had a beautiful day on our  field trip to the Plymouth Apple Orchard last week.  I would like to thank all the chaperones who volunteered on this trip.  Thanks to Billy’s mom who took some fabulous pictures while we were there.  Take a look for yourself:

Last week for our Mad Science Experiment, our kindergartners blew up a balloon in an unusual way.  Ask them what they did.  Thanks to Evan’s grandma, Billy’s mom, Max’s mom and Reina’s mom.  Here is a look during that experiment:

Today we made Elephant’s Toothpaste!  Have your scientist tell you all about it.  Thanks to Max’s mom, Max’s grandpa, Logan’s mom, and Billy’s mom.  We couldn’t have done it without them.  Pictures will be posted soon.

In your child’s folder today, please look for an envelope and letter from our Homeroom Moms regarding our Mad Science Basket for the Lindbergh’s Holiday Boutique.

Week of October 7, 2013

Dear Families,

Ms. Wright is not always right!  🙂 On Wednesday, October 9th, our class will be going to the Plymouth Apple Orchard.  Please make sure that your child is here at 8:35 a.m. not 9:35 a.m. like it states on Ms. Wright’s Kindergarten calendar that was sent home last week.  We will arrive back to Lindbergh by 2:30 p.m. but your child will be dismissed at 3:35 p.m.  Sorry for the confusion!  If you are chaperoning for this field trip, tomorrow you will find a chaperone packet in your child’s red folder.  Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the field trip.  It looks like it may be cooler, so make sure they have a jacket, comfortable walking shoes and a bag lunch.  All lunches need to be stapled or taped shut with your child’s name clearly marked on the outside.  They will need to bring a drink, but please no glass.

Thanks to our “future basket money” I recently bought new book bags for our class.  Each day your child will take home his/her bag and practice reading with you.  There are also a ring of cards with the words of the week that we have or are currently studying in class.  Please take a few minutes to practice those as well.  Please make sure your child returns the bag to school each day.  Your child will receive new books 2-3 times a week.

Science Experiment#5 was sent home today in your child’s red folder.  Please make sure that everything is returned by Thursday, October 17th. If your child has not returned their test tubes from last week, they need to do so tomorrow.

A big thank you  goes out to the Mad Science volunteers from last week!  Thanks to Max’s mom, Reina’s mom, and Billy’s grandma for helping us with our “Rainbow Test Tubes!”  Take a look at our scientists in action:

If you are interested in helping our scientists for this week’s Mad Science Experiment, please let me know.  The excitement will start at 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 10th.

Letter Books were sent home today.  We are studying the letters T and t this week.  Make sure the letter books are returned by Friday.

Tomorrow your child’s Everyday Math Homelink book will be sent home along with an explanation of how we are going to use them for homework.  I have taped your child’s username and password to the cover the book.  You will need this information for assessing Everyday Math on-line.

Until next time…

Ms Wright

Monday:  Letter books will be sent home.  We will be studying the letter B b.  Science Homework #4 will be sent home and due next Monday.  Words of the Week:  like   we

Tuesday:  Happy October!  Please return your Nightly Reading Homework today!  We will be having our PBIS reward-popsicle and extra recess for those students who stayed on green 80 percent of the time in September!

Wednesday:  Late Start Day!  School starts one hour later at 9:35 a.m.

Thursday:  Mad Science Day!  Our scientists will begin experimenting at 1:00 p.m.  If you are interested in helping us, please let me know.  We are planning to be completed by 1:40 since we have gym at 1:45 p.m.

Here are some pictures taken during  math workshop, students reading to the class and science!

Week of September 23, 2013

Here is what you need to know for this week in kindergarten:
Monday:  we had a “green day!”  Everyone kept their clip on green.  Great job Kindergartners!  Let’s go for a green week! Everyone brought back their science homework.  We loved being able to use our sense of touch to figure out what was inside everyone’s glove.  This week’s science experiment came home today.  I love how our class is really beginning to think and talk like scientists.
Tuesday:  Today I will give your child the district writing prompt.  We will also go to music.
Wednesday:  Mad Science Day!  If you would like to help us, please let me know.  We will begin experimenting at 1:00 p.m.
Next week I will change the day of Mad Science for parents who have a conflict with Wednesday.
Thursday:  Picture Day!  Wear your smiles!  Please place picture money in your child’s red folder.  My own son forgot to give his kindergarten teacher his money last week and it is a hassle trying to order pictures afterwards.  We will also have gym so pack gym shoes if you need to.
Friday:  letter books are due!  Every child has been returning their letter books each week.  Great work!  This week’s letter is R r.

Week of September 16, 2013

Hello Families,

Hope you enjoyed the wonderful weekend!  Here is a glimpse of what is planned for kindergarten this week:

Monday:  Letter books will be sent home/ we will be studying the letter M. Please return by Friday.  We will be studying the words “I” and “can.”  Also, our class will preview books at the Scholastic Book Fair.  We will send home a Book Fair Wish List.

Tuesday:  We will check out a new book from the library today.  Our class will go to music today with Mrs. Baloga.

Wednesday:  We will be having Mad Science today!  Please come and join us for our “Senses Centers”.  We need 3 more parents to volunteer in our classroom at 1:00 p.m.  Volunteers will need to sign in at the office first and plan to stay for an hour.  Thanks to Billy’s mom and Reina’s mom for already volunteering.  If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible.

Thursday:  Our class will be going to gym with Mr. Murua. Lindbergh’s Open House is from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Friday:  Our class will be going to Art with Mrs. Doman and Music with Mrs. Bologa.  Letter books need to be returned.  Your child will take home their Poetry Folder today so they can practice them over the weekend.

Science Homework for this Week:  Sense of Touch

Your child will be taking home a surgical glove and a clear cylinder.  Please have your child fill the surgical glove with something interesting inside.  Examples:  popcorn kernals, sand, beads, etc.. Once the glove is full, tie the glove like you would a balloon. Fill the clear cylinder with the same material that is inside the glove. Tape the cylinder shut.  Please make sure that there is nothing valuable or anything you want returned. Both items will be placed on our Science Table. Our scientists will be using their sense of touch to try to figure out what is inside the glove and match it with what is inside the cylinder.  I will provide the class with several examples so they will understand what they need to do for their homework.  My own children and I have had a blast doing this over the weekend.  I hope your family will too.  This science homework is due on Monday, September 23 but can be handed in anytime before.  Good Luck!

Here are some pictures during corners!
