Howdy Families,

Here is a picture of the 15 students who brought back their Nightly Reading Homework today!  Look at all those smiling faces.  If your child didn’t, they may turn it in on Tuesday.  The Book-it coupons will be sent home on Tuesday.

These students also received a reading charm for all of their great reading.  Please help your child to keep the necklace and charms in a special place to avoid getting lost.  If your child lost their necklace, I can order a few more, they can be replaced for 50 cents a piece.

Here is what you need to know for this week:

Letter of the Week:  D d   Letter books were sent home today.  Due Friday!

  • Word Family of the Week:  the “ap” family    Your child’s spelling words are: cap, map, nap and tap.  They will practice these words in class but should also practice them at home.  Students will be tested on these words and a “cold” word from the “ap” family.  Spelling test will be on Friday.  Please make sure to have your child practice these words in a mixed up order.  Many students had difficulty with this during last Friday’s spelling test.
  • Book Fair- today our class previewed the books at the Book Fair.  A “wish-list” was sent home in his/her red folder.  If you would like your child to purchase books, please make sure to put their money in an envelope along with the wish list in their red folder.  If you prefer to take your child yourself, the book fair is open until 4:00 o’clock for the next few days.  Thanks for supporting Lindbergh!
  • Mad Science at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.  If you are interested in helping us, please let me know.
  • Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  I will send home a class list in the next several days in case your child would like to pass out valentines to the class.  Our party will be on Friday, February 14th.  As soon as I have more details, I will pass them on to you.
  • Report cards were sent home today.  I did staple a progress report to it, giving you some important details about your child’s learning.  The report card is yours to keep!
  • Please have your child work on Math Homelinks 5.2 and 5.4 this week.  They are due on Monday, February 10th.
  • If you are interested in helping with Lindbergh’s Science Fair Boot Camp, I am planning to have a quick meeting after school on Friday, February 7th in our classroom.

I am sure there is probably more, but that’s all for now!

Hello Families,

Hope everyone is keeping warm!  Here is what you need to know for this week in our kindergarten class:

  • Spelling Words-  our district is starting a new spelling program for kindergarten.  Each Monday your child will receive spelling words in his/her spelling notebook.  They will practice these words in school and at home.  They will be tested on these words in class on Friday.  Your child will need to always keep this small  spelling notebook in his/her book bag. Some of the spelling words will be from a word family.  For this week, there are four “hot” words on the list:  at   cat  mat  sat.  Your child will need to know how to read them and write them.  Also, your child will be given a “cold” word.  A “cold” word is a word not on the list but follows the same word pattern.  This shows if your child can apply the pattern to a new word.  Examples for this week:  bat  hat  pat.  Another component to the spelling program is that your child will be given individual words that they will need to practice.  These words will be taken from the Dolch word list, or commonly used words.  I will not start this component of spelling until next week.  Good luck !
  • Letter of the Week:  O    Letter books were sent home today and need to be returned by Friday.  Make sure that your child is writing down all the sounds they hear in the word.  It does not need to be spelled perfectly.
  • Mad Science at 1:00 on Wednesday!  If you are interested in volunteering, let me know.
  • Assessments are completed!!!  Your child will receive his/her report card soon.  There will be a progress report stapled to the report card.  This is just to give you additional information that I thought you might be interested in.
  • Your child’s book bag should feel a little lighter today.  We went through each bag since your child will be placed in a new group based on their progress.  It was interesting, many students didn’t want to give the books back!  🙂  Until that book bag fills up again, please use Raz-Kids.  If you need the username or directions, please email me.
  • Nightly Reading sheets will need to be returned on Monday.  If your child returns it, they will receive a new charm for their necklace.  Please have them bring in the necklace too.

Save the Date:

Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, March 12th from 6:30-7:30 for Lindbergh’s Science Fair Boot Camp.  Every student K-5 will be participating in this event.  If you are interested in helping me organize it, please email me!  There will be hundreds of science display boards as well as exciting hands-on science experiments and demonstrations.  I can’t wait!  🙂

Until next time…

Help!!

A black, rubber ball is missing from our science table.  It was last seen at the end of the day and now it is missing.  It is a part of a science demonstration and is very costly to replace.  Please ask your child if they know about it and/or check his/her backpack for it.

Thanks so much!

  • Words of the Week:   he  is

  • On Friday, there will be no school.

Hello Families,

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Here is what you need to know for this week:

  • Letter Study:  G  g  Letter books will be sent home today and need to be returned by Friday.
  • Words of the Week:  she   said
  • Testing/assessments:  this week I will be finishing up  assessing your child in Social Studies.  I will be giving your child the District Writing Prompt, giving the Development Reading Assessment (DRA), as well as the DRA Word Analysis.  Therefore, I will not be seeing your child in his/her strategy groups and will not be putting new books in their book bag.  If you are looking for books at your child’s level, please try out Raz-kids on-line.  I have receive many positive comments about it.  If you need any help, feel free to email me.  Also, if you have the Raz-Kids app on your I-Pad, there is an update which has worked out some of the bugs.
  • Social Studies Project:  Today I am sending home a Time Line Project.  It is due on Thursday, January 23rd.  However, as soon as it is completed, please return it to school so your child can share with the class.  I showed an example today in class, so your child should have a good idea of what needs to be done.  Any questions, please feel free to email me.
  • Math Homelinks 4.2, 4.5 and 4.13 need to be completed and returned by Tuesday, January 21st.  Note:  For Homelink 4.2, after you play the game Top-It, have your child write how many games they play at home.
  • Dry Clothes- please make sure that your child has a complete extra set of clothes in his/her locker, including socks.  Things happen in Kindergarten and we need to be prepared!  🙂
  • Snowpants/Boots: We go outside for lunch recess almost everyday unless it is too cold.  Please make sure that your child comes to school with everything they need.  If they wear boots, please make sure they pack a pair of shoes!  Also, labeling your child’s clothes is a great idea.  Black snowpants are a pretty popular item around here and are not always easy to identify the owner.  Thanks for your help!

Have a great week!

December 22, 2013

Dear Families,

We had a wonderful time at our party on Friday!  Thank you to all who sent in supplies, treats or volunteered to help.   Thank you to our fabulous room parents, Mrs. Schook and Mrs. Beydoun, who took time to plan the festivities.  We decorated the cutest sugar cookies, we made a keepsake ornament, we played Roll a Dice Christmas Tree,  and we made a Rudolph hat and reindeer food!

I can’t thank you enough for the most thoughtful class gift basket!  The beautifully written letter was more than enough. The generous gift cards to the movies {my sons Trevor and Trent was trying to convince me to use them yesterday 🙂 will be put to great use quickly!  The gift card to Applebees’s won’t last long either!  There was even a Visa gift card.  All of these items were placed in the cutest Santa basket.  You were so generous!  Katherine’s family even was able to sneak in a Science CD! Thank you!

The party went by so fast that I didn’t take any pictures, but snapped a few when the class went to art.  Take a look.
