Mad Scientists Strike Again!

Dear Families,

We conducted our next science experiment using Earth Materials today.  Ask your child about our smear test.   The scientists were so excited when the earth material made a “smear” or a mark on their paper.  They did an amazing job.  Thanks to Aseel’s mom for helping us today. Here are a few pictures:

Wish us luck!

Mad Science Strikes Again!

Dear Families,

During our investigation of Earth Materials, we conducted our first experiment called the “The Settling Test.”  We filled each jumbo sized test tube half way with a different  earth material.  Next our kindergarten scientists used pipettes and filled the other half of the test tube with water.  Then, we shook the test tubes for several minutes.  Afterwards, we observed to see what happened.  I was surprised that many students took the term “settle down” and applied it to this experiment wondering if the earth material would move down to the bottom of the test tube. So far, the sand has settled the most.  However, we will observe again tomorrow morning and look for any other changes.   Take a look!

February 4, 2015

Hello Families,

Due to the short week, there will be no new spelling words.  Your child will not work on the “ap” family at school this week, although you can start  practicing at home. 🙂  Most of the class took their spelling test today, however, we didn’t get through everyone so we will finish up tomorrow and then send the tests home.

The revised report card was sent home today.  You may of noticed two blank spots, one for your child’s reading level and one for their math level.  The reason those were blank is because that’s where your child’s NWEA scores go.  Since we haven’t taken those tests yet, it didn’t make it on this report card.  However, I will be sending home the NWEA family report once we have taken both tests.  We are schedule to take our first test on Friday.  Thanks to everyone who brought in headphones today.

Today we previewed the Scholastic Book Fair brought to you by our PTA.  Your child made a wish list, selecting 3-4 books they really liked.  If you would like your child to purchase books, please place the money and wish list in an envelope and place in your child’s red folder.  I will send them up in small groups.  The book fair is also open until 4:00 pm. Feel free to take your child up to the Book Fair, located in the Media Center after school.

If your child did not bring in their Nightly Reading Homework today, it is not too late.  Due to the extremely busy day, I didn’t have a chance to read through them. Remind your child to wear their charm bracelet tomorrow!

I would like to especially thank our wonderful Lindbergh PTA.  I have been a part of many different schools and PTA organizations over the years and no PTA comes close to Lindbergh’s.  Once again, they are supporting our classroom by giving us 50 dollars to spend on books.

Thanks!

Ms. Wright

Mad Science Strikes Again

Hello Families,

Last Thursday we started our Project Based Learning Unit on Earth Science.  The kindergarten scientists investigated four different earth materials:  clay, soil, sand and gravel by using hand rakes, shovels, colanders, magnifying glasses, and tweezers.  Was it messy?  Yes!  Was it noisy?  Yes!  Were the students engaged?  Yes!  Did they learn lots about earth materials?  Double yes!

Report Cards

Dear Families,

You may have noticed that there are no math grades on your child’s report card. I apologize for this oversight.  The report cards arrived today and I didn’t have a chance to review them before handing them out.  I will make sure that your child’s  report card with math grades will be reprinted and sent home next week.

Again, I apologize for this error.

Sincerely,

Ms. Wright
