Help!!!

is

Dear Families,

In order to help your child be successful in the computer lab this year, it is suggested that your child have their own set of headphones.  Please mark your child’s name on the headphones and place in a ziplock bag also labeled with your child’s name.  We will keep them at school all year but the headphones will be returned at the end of the year.  You can find headphones for children at many places such as Target, Meijer and even some dollar stores.  The ones I bought for my own sons were at Five Below.  My sons loved them because they were comfortable and worked well.  I liked them because they only cost $5.00.

Thanks for supporting us at school!

Ms. Wright

P.S.  Please no ear buds!  We found that for kindergarteners they did not work well.

Mad Science Today!

Dear Families,

We had a great day today!  We read during Daily 5 for over 9 minutes while following all our expectations.  Great job Kindergartners.  It does really help if students have familiar books from home in their book box.

Week of September 14, 2015

Dear Families,

I hope you get a chance to relax this weekend after this busy week.  Here is what you need to know:

Monday:

  • Homework is due!  Yes, some of the kindergartners having been begging Ms. Wright for homework this week so their wish is my command!  🙂  We have been discussing the word “habit” since it ties in with Lindbergh being a  Leader in Me school this year.  We will be discussing the “7 habits of happy kids!” all year so we figured we better know what a habit is.  Our  habit definition is something we do all the time without even thinking about it.  Your child will need to draw a picture about a habit they do at home.  If parents could ask their child about his/her picture and write down what they say.  Afterwards, place the homework in their red folder.  Thanks!  Try to use the word “habit” with your child whenever you can.
  • We will be previewing the Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by Lindbergh’s PTA.  Your child will make a “wish list” which will be sent home.  If you want to purchase books for your child, send the wish list along with the money in an envelope marked with your child’s name.  Place the envelope in your child’s red folder.
  • We will be going to gym with Mr. Murua at 1:05-1:50 p.m.  Please make sure that your child wear proper gym shoes today.
  • We will be going to art with Mrs. Doman at 1:52-2:37 p.m.  These are the actual times, in case you were wondering.  We are very precise here at Lindbergh. 🙂
  • We will be eating lunch at school for the first time today.  Make sure that your child is aware if they have  a packed lunch or are buying a lunch.  For the first few days, we will be helping the kindergartners with the routine of lunch, no worries!  Please pack a Nut-free, healthy snack to eat in our classroom.
  • Bring in unframed 4 X 6 family photo if you haven’t already done so.

Tuesday:

  • We will be going to music with Mrs. Baloga at 1:05-1:50 p.m.
  • We will be starting our literacy model called Daily 5 today.  It really helps if child have some favorite books from home to place in their school book box.  Make sure your child’s name is marked on the cover of each book. Please do not have your child bring in more than 5 books.
  • Bring in unframed 4 X 6 family photo if you haven’t already done so.

Wednesday:

  • Since we do not have any special classes on Wednesday, I thought we could do Mad Science today at 1:00 p.m.  The students have literally been begging me to do science since the first day!  We would love some science helpers today.  If you are interesting in helping us, please leave a comment below or email me at wrightt1@ dearbornschools.org.  You will need to check in the office first, receive a visitor’s badge and come to room 114.  It will be loads of fun, you won’t want to miss it!
  • Bring in unframed 4 X 6 family photo if you haven’t already done so.

Thursday:

  • We will have music with Mrs. Baloga today at 1:52-2:37 p.m.
  • Tonight is Open House from 6:00 -7:30 p.m.  Come and visit our classroom as well as the rest of Lindbergh Elementary.  You will need to sign up for a parent teacher conference that take place in November.

Friday:

  • Today we will go to the Media with Mrs. Ackerman at 1:05-1:50.  Then we will go to gym with Mr. Murua from 1:52-2:37 p.m.  Make sure that your child wears gym shoes.

That’s all for now!  However, as soon as I push the “publish” button I will think of something else!  Happens every time.

Until next time,

Ms. Wright

Another fantastic Day!!

Dear Families,

I feel so lucky to be the teacher in this kindergarten class.  We have a great group of students in room 114!

I would like to clear up some confusion:

  • We need an unframed family picture sent by Wednesday, September 16, 2015.  The other kindergarten teacher prefers the pictures framed.  We need them unframed so we can hang them over our fireplace in our classroom.
  • Snack:  each morning we take about 10 minutes to eat a healthy snack.  We are a peanut/nut free classroom so keep that in mind when packing your child’s snack.
  • Today in your child’s red folder, there was information regarding Lindbergh’s PTA and our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair.  Please check for it tonight.

Enjoy the evening!

Ms. Wright

September 9, 2015

Dear Families,

We had another fantastic day today!  A huge thank you for:

  • all of the awesome school supplies you donated!!!
  • saying good bye to your child outside this morning.  The students came like Lindbergh flyers and everyone was able to open their locker all by themselves!
  • bringing back the red folders today with all the paperwork completed!  No wonder our students are great, they come from great families!!!
  • being flexible with the screening appointments!  If you haven’t sign up yet, I will bring the clipboard out tomorrow morning.
  • sending in  a healthy snack!  I didn’t see any candy, cookies or chips come in today!

Important Note:

We have several students will severe peanut and tree nut allergies in our class.  Therefore, our classroom needs to be a peanut/tree nut free zone.  Therefore,  double check the snacks you send in for peanuts or tree nuts.  However, your child may eat items that have peanuts or tree nuts at lunch since these child will be sitting at our “allergy table.”  If you have any questions, let me know.

Here are some pictures from first thing this morning.  We got so busy that I didn’t have a chance to snap any others later in the morning!

The First Day of Kindergarten!

Dear Families,

We had a great first day today!  It sure was wonderful to see so many friendly faces this morning!

Here are a few helpful hints for this week:

  • Please make sure that your child lines up on the #4 on the south side blacktop.  Thanks for doing such a fantastic job this morning.
  • Please say your goodbyes to your child outside.  Kindergarten is all about being independent!
  • Dismissal will be at 11:45 a.m. this week.
  • Please pack a healthy snack for your child.
  • If your child would like to bring a water bottle to school, that would be fine.  Please mark the bottle with your child’s name on it.
  • I will be doing individual screenings on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday this week.  Each screening takes about 20 minutes.  I will make sure to bring the sign-up sheet outside at arrival time.

Today we read the story, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School by Laura Murray.  Then we had to look for clues all around the school.  This was a great way to become more familiar with the school as well as meet  important people at Lindbergh.  Ask your child about where we found the clues and what did the Gingerbread Man leave for us in our classroom.  Take a look!

Welcome to Kindergarten in Room 114!

September 6, 2015

Dear Families,

My name is Ms. Wright and I would like to welcome you and your child to room 114.  This is my 21st year teaching.  Time sure flies when you love what you do!  I have many exciting things planned this year in the areas of literacy, math, science and social studies.  As of right now, we have 23 students registered to be in our class;  12 girls and 11 boys.

Dearborn Public Schools is initiating a “Soft Start” program for incoming kindergarten students this year. The purpose of the Soft Start program is to provide shorter days and an awesome introduction to the kindergarten teacher and to your child’s school on a part-time schedule for the first week of school.

The start of school is an exciting time in the lives of children and families. Our goal for Soft Start is to make the start to school positive and successful for all students. Thank you for your patience with the part time schedule. Your child will need to arrive to school at 8:35 a.m. and will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. each day for the first week.

I look forward to meeting you and your child on Tuesday, September 8th at 8:35 a.m.  Our class will line up on the #4 (it is painted on the blacktop) on the south side of Lindbergh.  On the first day, I welcome you to walk in with us and stay in our classroom until around 9:00 a.m.  Afterwards, our principal, Mrs. DeNeen will request your presence for a brief informational meeting in the cafeteria.

What does your child need to bring with them on the first day?

  • backpack
  • small healthy snack

Please do not bring school supplies on the first day of school.

See you on Tuesday!

Ms. Wright
