Halloween Information!

Dear Families,

We will be celebrating Halloween on Friday, October 30th.  At Lindbergh, the kindergartners are the only students in the school who are allowed to wear costumes to school.  So we feel very lucky!!  This is what you will need to know about our Halloween morning on October 30th.

  • If your child wishes, they may wear his/her costume to school.  Please no masks or pretend weapons props.
  • We will start our Kindergarten Halloween Parade around the school at 9:00 a.m. This is where we parade up and down the hallways so everyone can see our cool costumes.  Parents are welcome to stay and take pictures. The parade lasts about 10 minutes.  If you can’t make it, we will post plenty of pictures on the blog, so no worries!  🙂
  • After the parade, the kindergartners will go upstairs to watch a Halloween video while parent volunteers transform our classroom into a Halloween Party Headquarters.  If you can volunteer to help with the party, please leave a comment below.
  • In the past, the party lasts until 11:15 a.m.
  • At 11:15 a.m. students will change into their regular school clothes so costumes won’t need to be worn during lunch or recess.  Please remember to bring a change of clothes.

Here are some items we need for the party:  If you can donate any of these items, please leave a comment below. Please check the comments to see what is already taken so we don’t have duplicate items.  I will post a finalize list a before the party.

24 mini muffins (please no nuts)
10 apples
24 juice boxes (please send in the day beforehand or sooner)
10 plastic tablecloths ( please send in the day beforehand or sooner)
24 Halloween plates  (please send in the day beforehand or sooner)
24 Halloween napkins (please send in the day beforehand or sooner)
1 box of spoons (please send in the day beforehand or sooner)
30 glow bracelets ( please send in the day beforehand or sooner)
If your child wishes to bring in a wrapped treat for each student for some trick- or -treating fun, that would be great. Please remember that there are 20 students in our class.  Please keep treats nut free.
Thanks so much!
Ms. Wright

Hello Families,

Today we introduced Read to Someone during Daily 5.  Here is our Read to Someone I-chart.  Ask your child about it tonight.

Field Trip Information:

  • As of today we have 8 parents chaperoning on our field trip with us to the Plymouth Apple Orchard next Wednesday.
  • We have 15 students who have paid and brought in their permission slips.  Both the money and permission slips are due tomorrow.
  • Chaperones need to pay $7.00 for themselves.  This includes the hay ride, pumpkin, apple, donut and cider.
  • Since we have over 60 students going on the field trip, we will need the chaperones to drive separately or carpool with other chaperones to the apple orchard.  Unfortunately we will not all fit on the bus.  However, you may follow the bus there.  We will pass out a direction sheet prior to the field trip.

Letter Books:

  • The students love to share their letter books on the promethean board.
  • The letter M is due tomorrow!

That’s all of now!

Kindergarten Scientists!

Hello Families,

We sure had a busy day in kindergarten today!  We are learning about our 5 Senses through 5 different stations. Thanks to Aailya’s mom, Juan’s mom and my mom for helping today.  Take a look.

Here is scientist Ben ready for the taste test.

Here is scientist Ben ready for the taste test. Please try to use words like: sweet, salty, sour and bitter at home. We realized that many students did not like the bitter taste. Ask your child about the taste test.

We ran out of time so we did not finish all the stations.  We are planning to finish them next Tuesday at 2:15 p.m.  We could really use 3 volunteers to help us.  If you are available, please leave a comment below.

Thanks!

Reminder:  Tomorrow is Late Start!!  The bell rings at 9:35 a.m.

Week of October 5, 2015

Hi Families,

Hope you were able to stay warm this weekend!  Here is what you need to know for the week ahead:

  • Welcome Michael Davis to our classroom.  Our new student starts tomorrow.  We are very excited to meet our new friend! 🙂
  • Letter Study for this week will be the letter M m.

There is a menu change for Monday’s lunch.  We do not serve “shrimp poppers” at Lindbergh due to severe allergies for several students and teachers.  Instead first choice will be burrito and second choice will be grilled cheese.

Monday:  Letter books will be sent home.  Again we are working on the letter M m.  Please have your child wear gym shoes.  We will also go to art. Kindergartners will be taking Day 1 of the district writing prompt. As always, I tell the students “Do your best and forget the rest!”  I actually like giving this writing prompt because it will be benchmark that will show so much growth by June.

Tuesday: Students will finish Day 2 of the district writing prompt.  We will have music with Mrs. Baloga.  Our class will go to the Media Center to select new library books.  Finally, we will investigate our “5 Senses” during science today.  If you are interested in helping us at 2:15 p.m. please leave a comment below.  Lindbergh’s PTA meeting will be held in the cafeteria from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Wednesday:  Late Start today!  School starts an hour later.  Please make sure your child arrives by 9:35 a.m.

Thursday:  We will go to music with Mrs. Baloga today.

Friday:  Letter books are due today.  Please have your child wear his/her gym shoes.  We will go to the computer lab with Mrs. Ackerman.  Field trip permission slips and money are due today!

Donations Needed for Tuesday (5 Senses):  If you can donate these items, please leave a comment below.   Thanks!!

  • 2 lemons for sour
  • bar of baking chocolate for bitter

Hello Families,

Time is flying fast here in our kindergarten classroom.  Here are a couple of friendly reminders:

  • Letter books are due tomorrow!  We have been working on the letter S this week.  The students have loved sharing them with the class.  Look at these future teachers!

  • Please make sure that your child wears his/her gym shoes tomorrow.
  • We will be taking our Math NWEA test tomorrow.
  • Our whole class was invited to the PBIS Reward tomorrow.  This is because every kindergartner stayed on green 80 percent or more in  the month of September.  They will enjoy a popsicle treat in the afternoon. 🙂

Field Trip:

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help us on our field trip to the Plymouth Apple Orchards and Cider Mill.  Please make sure that your child’s permission slip and money is returned to school by Friday, October 9th.  On the day of our field trip, your child will still need to arrive to school by 8:35 a.m. and will be dismissed at 3:35 p.m.

That’s all for now!

Dear Families,

We had another busy day in Room 114.  The kindergartners took their first NWEA test this afternoon.  They really did a great job.  The test had 58 questions on it.  Unfortunately, we were taking our test during the time we were scheduled to select new library books, so we did not check out new books.

Ask your child about the blue retelling strip that came home today in their red folder. Have them retell the story I Was So Mad by Mercer Mayer.

Yesterday was Grace and Madilyn’s birthday!  Happy birthday girls!

We had several students share their letter books today.  Thanks to Martin and Ruby for a job well done.  Here are some pictures in case you are a visual learner.  Please do not have your child draw the pictures themselves.  We really want to have them to stretch their thinking.  Letter books are due on Friday. However, your child can turn it in before, if it is completed.

Don’t forget that Picture Day is Thursday, October 1st.  Order forms were sent home yesterday.  Let me know if you need one.

Writer’s Workshop

Dear Families,

Thanks to everyone who brought in headphones!  We are ready for the computer lab!  The kindergartners will be taking the NWEA test in the computer lab next week.  The students will be tested in reading and math.  We will go over the results in November during parent teacher conferences.

Today we checked out library books from the Media Center.  Your child will need to return the borrowed book back to school on Monday.

Your child may have mentioned Writer’s Workshop, another favorite time of the day!  Here are a couple of pictures of our kindergartner writers.

A Few Quick Things!

Dear Families,

We had another fantastic day in kindergarten!  I just love this class!  🙂

Here are a few things you need to know;

  • Thanks to everyone who brought in headphones today!  A huge thank you to Ali’s mom who brought in 14 extra pairs for our class!  🙂
  • Please mark your calendar for our first kindergarten field trip.  The field trip will be on Wednesday, October 14th.  We are going to the Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill.  The permission slips will sent home next Monday.  If you would like to be a chaperone for this trip, please make sure that your paperwork for your background check is in the office.  The paperwork takes about 2 weeks to process.
  • Thanks to everyone for sending in an awesome kindergartner/s ready to learn!

Until next time,

Ms. Wright

Week of September 28, 2015

Dear Families,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day with your family.  It has been a fun, soccer-filled weekend for me.  Here is what you need to know.

  • Monday:  We will go to Physical Education with Mr. Murua today, so please make sure your child wear gym shoes.  We will also go to Art with Mrs. Doman.
  • Tuesday:  We will go to Music with Mrs. Baloga.
  • Wednesday:  No School
  • Thursday:  No School
  • Friday:  No School

Lunch boxes:  Please mark your child’s name on the outside of your child’s lunchbox.  This really helps us out when passing them back at dismissal time.

Snacks:  Please make sure to send in a healthy, nut-free snack for your child each day.  Some ideas might include:  cut-up fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese sticks, yogurt.  Please no candy, cookies or chips!

Water bottles:  Your child may bring in their own water bottle from home.  This way kindergartners don’t need to go out into the hallway for a drink from the drinking fountain.  Make sure that the water bottle is marked with his/her name.

Headphones:  We are encouraging students to have their own set of headphones for the computer lab.  Please mark your child’s name on the headphones.  Place the headphones in a ziplock bag that is also labeled with your child’s name.

Field Trip:  We will be going on a field trip in October.  Once everything is finalized, I will be sending home a note with all the information as well a permission slip.  If you would like to be a chaperone for this trip, you must have your background check approved from the office.  It is an easy process: fill out the necessary paperwork from the office as well as showing your driver’s license.

Future Dates:

Kindergarten Concert is Thursday, March 10th @ 6:30 p.m.  Students need to report to their classroom @ 6:20 wearing nice, dressy clothes.  If your family is new to Lindbergh, Mrs. Baloga puts an amazing kindergarten concert, you won’t want to miss it!

Enjoy the day!

Ms. Wright
