Correction: Mad Science on Thursday is 1:00 p.m.

Dear Families,

If you offered to volunteer for Mad Science on Thursday, we will need your help at 1:00 p.m. -1:45 p.m.  Let me know if this changes your availability to volunteer on Thursday.

I apologize for the confusion.   The lesson learned here is that Ms. Wright is not always right!

Thanks!

Ms. Wright

A few things…

Dear Families,

Just wanted to show you a quick look during Math Workshop today.

library-book

Today we went to the Media Center so your child could check out a library book.   Library books will need to be returned every Monday so we are ready for our Tuesday check-out.  Here is a helpful tip that works well at our house.  After my sons are finished reading their library books, they place it right back their backpack. If your house is like ours, we have a ton of books and it keeps the library book separate from our own book collection.

Book Bag Log:   Inside each book bag, there is a sheet for you to sign.  You don’t need to sign the sheet every night (even if your child practices the book every night) just on the line next to the title. However, when your child practices re-reading the book, please make sure that it is recorded as a Nightly Literacy Activity. As the students become more independent during Daily 5, I will see your child more often.

Mad Science:  Thanks to the volunteers for this week’s Mad Science on Wednesday  (starting at 1:00 p.m.) and Thursday (starting at 1:00 p.m).  We could still use more help on Thursday if you are available!

Playdough Needed: We could use a new batch of playdough for our classroom since ours is getting very sticky.  If you are interested in making some for our class, let me know.  I have an easy playdough recipe if needed.

Kudos to:

  • Olivia’s mom for organizing our Science Folders!
  • MacKenzie’s mom for organizing our Leader in Me binders and helping us in our classroom!

Have a great day!

Ms. Wright

Students of the Month…..

Drum roll please!  Congratulations to Ali Deebajah and Lilly Hazinski for our September Students of the Month.  These students had excellent behavior and completed all homework last month.  Keep up the great work Ali and Lilly!

Week of October 3, 2016

Dear Families,

I hope this finds everyone in your house happy and healthy!  Here is what we need to know for the upcoming week in our kindergarten class:

Please welcome our new friend Jacob to Room 114.  Jacob came to visit us on Friday and he seemed like has been here since the first day!

Leader in Me:

Last week we were talking about the word “habit” in class and how a habit is something you do over and over without really even thinking about it.  Habits can be good and bad.  Ask your child about what are some good habits.  See if they remember about Ms. Wright’s bad habit.  Try to use the word “habit” at home with your child.

be-proactive

We were also introduced to Habit 1:  Be Proactive! I’m in Charge of Me!

If you see your child being proactive at home, please take a photo and email it to me at wrightt1@dearbornschools.org.  Thanks for your support.

Monday:  Please return Nightly Literacy Homework and Poetry Notebooks today.  Wear gym shoes and art clothes.

Tuesday:  We will check out a book from the Media Center and have music with Mrs. Baloga.

Wednesday:  Mad Science at 1:00-2:00 p.m. We need family volunteers to help us as we rotate through our 5 Senses stations.  Our plan is to rotate through 3 stations today.  Email me if you are interested in helping us.

Thursday:  Mad Science at 1:00-1:45.  We need family volunteers to help us finish our 5 Senses stations before we go to Music at 1:52 p.m.

Friday:  We will go to the computer lab with Mrs. Ackerman.  Wear gym shoes for Mr. Murua.  Please turn in field trip permission slips and money today.  We still have several chaperone spots available for anyone who is interested.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Red Folders on Monday morning at arrival time-  help us organize folders for the new month
  • Mad Science  on Wednesday from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
  • Mad Science on Thursday from 1:00-1:45 p.m.
  • Organize words of the week card rings- This is done at the convenience of your own home anytime.

Book Bags:

Book bags were sent home last week.  Please make sure that you sign the Book Bag Log located inside the bag.  We need all materials placed back in the bag before sending to school. These bags will be sent home more often once the kindergartners are more independent during Daily 5.

Until next time…

Ms. Wright

A Few Things….

Dear Families,

We sure had an exciting day in our kindergarten class today.  Your child might have mentioned that my guinea pigs,  Henry and Ford, came to visit today.  The students were very excited about this visit, but also very gentle with them.  Thanks Ms. JuJu for coming and helping with Henry and Ford!

Most Amazing Photos Ever!

Dear Families,

Lucky for us, we have a generous parent who happens to be an incredible photographer in our classroom.  The other day I asked Aston’s mom if she had a couple of minutes to take some pictures for the covers of our kindergarten science notebooks. Don’t you agree that these photos should be on the cover of a newsstand magazine instead?

Week of September 26th

Dear Families,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day!  Here is what you need to know for this upcoming week:

  • Monday:  Please have your child place their Nightly Literacy Homework along with their Poetry Notebook in their red folder for today.  Hopefully your child had time to practice last week’s poem Time for School with you over the weekend!  In the morning our kindergartners will be taking the NWEA test in the computer lab.  If your child has a pair of headphones they could use for the computer lab, that would be great.  Please send them in, labeled with your child’s name on them.  Wear gym shoes for Mr. Murua and clothes appropriate for art class with Mrs. Doman.
  • Tuesday: We will be finishing our NWEA testing this morning.  We will go to music with Mrs. Baloga.
  • Wednesday:  We will be having some special visitors coming in our class today!
  • Thursday:  Picture Day! Make sure that your child’s picture money and envelope are placed in your child’s red folder.  We will go to music with Mrs. Baloga.
  • Friday: We will go to the computer lab with Mrs. Ackerman and have gym with Mr. Murua so wear your gym shoes!

Some information on NWEA Testing:  NWEA stands for the Northwest Education Assessment.  Our kindergarten will take 2 tests; one in reading and one in math.  The NWEA test will be administered 3 times a year:  fall/winter and spring.  Each test is about 50 questions long.  I will go over your child’s fall results with you in November during parent/teacher conferences.  There is no need to stress or have your child stress about taking this test.  In the past, most students have enjoyed taking this computerized test.

Book Bags:  This week your child will be bringing home a book bag.  This bag will contain materials that will help your child reach their literacy goal.  Since each child in the class have different goals, the materials in each child’s bag will be different.  Please have your child practice each night and return each school day.  Directions will be on the Learning Log inside.  The learning Log will need to be signed each night by you.  Thank you for supporting your child at home.  Please count this practice time for your child’s Nightly Literacy homework!  Good Luck!

Thanks to:

  • MacKenzie’s dad for helping us on Friday.
  • Aston’s mom, Dominic’s mom and Enna’s mom for being our Homeroom Parents this year!  YOU Rock!

September 20

Dear Families,

Hope all is well with you!  The students are making excellent strides to adjusting to our full day of kindergarten.  We are working hard on following classroom procedures and expectations.  The one expectation that provides the most difficulty is following directions. Please remind your child each morning to make sure to follow directions.  I do really appreciate your support!

Make sure to mark your child’s name on the outside of his/her lunchbox.  It makes dismissal time that much smoother.:)

A huge thank you to MacKenzie’s mom, Aston’s mom, Dominic’s mom and Lilly’s mom for helping us today.  They were the ultimate task masters! Also, thanks to Jeff for taking the time to labeling all the tabs for our Leader in Me binders.  If you are ever interested, I will post many other volunteer opportunities here on the blog in the near future.

Here are some pictures I was able to take in the last week.

Great News!  We just confirmed our first field trip to the Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill!  This trip is planned for Wednesday, October 12, 2016 for a full day.  We will be taking 10 chaperones on this trip.  In order to be a chaperone, you need to have your background check approved in the office.  In order to have this completed, please stop in the office with your driver’s license and fill out the necessary paperwork.  The approval process takes 2 weeks to complete, so don’t delay!  Field trip information sheet and permission slips will be sent home tomorrow.  Look for it in your child’s red folder!

gold-coin

Gold Coins:  If your child brings home a golden coin that means they were found following the “Lindbergh Way!” Encourage your child to collect the coins in a special place at home since they do not need to be returned.  Every time your child receives a golden coin, their name is read over the PA system the next morning for the whole school to hear!
