Your child received a note about passing out Valentine cards in their red folder last Monday.  It contains a list with the names of each student in our class.  This is a fun way for your child to practice writing their own name as well as the names of their friends.  If your child chooses to do this, please bring the cards on Tuesday, February 14th.

100th Day of School:

“Ms. Wright, the day flies by so fast when we get to hang out with you! ” exclaimed Keegan last week.  I really feel the same way.  I can’t believe that we are going to celebrate the 100th day of kindergarten on Wednesday, February 15th.  Your child is invited to dress up as someone who is 100 years old, although some of the students think that is me. Ha!

We are also looking for donations of our 100 piece snack.  If your family is able, send in a bag or package of a peanut-free snack.  As part of our math, the students count out 10 groups of 10 different things as shown below.  Please send in  the 100th day snack donations on or before Tuesday.  Examples:  a bag of pretzels, raisins, teddy grahams, popcorn, etc.  Thanks!

Students of the Month!

Dear Families,

Please help me congratulate Teagan Cook and Aleksander Dewey as January’s Students of the Month! These two students are hard-working Lindbergh Leaders!

Ms. Wright

February 2, 2017

Dear Families,

I just wanted to express my thanks for supporting our Lindbergh School arrival policy these last couple of days. Thanks for saying your goodbyes outside to your child and letting them enter the building independently. Every child has come in, ready to start the day!

This week, we started spelling in our class. Each day, your child practices these words during Daily 5. Take a look.

In math, we started Unit 5 which is all about Measuring. Today, we compared heights in our classroom:

Last, but definitely not least, we celebrated Dominic’s birthday on Tuesday. Happy 6th Birthday Dominic!

Until next time…

Ms. Wright

PS Don’t forget: Tomorrow is Popcorn Day! 25 cents a bag/ 4 bag limit

Week of January 30, 2017

Dear Families,

Last week, you probably heard that we had a flood in our classroom. As a result, we have a super clean floor and bathroom now. Yes, in room 114 we strive to see the glass half full.

It is hard to believe that we are now starting our third quarter in kindergarten. What does that mean? Yes, this kindergarten year is half over. Honestly, I wish I could have a class like this one every year!

Kudos to the amazing timelines! Not only did every student bring one back, but not one was done on foam board or completed in a circle!

Here is what you need to know:

Monday: Please return Nightly Literacy Homework, book bags, and your library book. We will have gym and art today.

Tuesday: We will go to the Media Center to check out library books and go to music with Mrs. Baloga today. We will start spelling words today. See below for more spelling information.

Wednesday: Today is our PBIS reward today. As a result, we will be making Valentines for Veterans!

Thursday: We will go to music with Mrs. Baloga today.

Friday: We will go to the computer lab with Mrs. Ackerman and gym with Mr. Murua.

Spelling:
Starting this week, your child will receive spelling words each Tuesday. Your child will be tested on these words the following Tuesday. These words will contain a word family with 4 “hot” words. This week’s “hot” words are: at/ cat/ mat/ sat Your child will also be tested on a “cold” word that will fit the pattern but will not be a word on their spelling list. This way we can see if your child can apply the pattern in a new way. In a few weeks, your child will also be given several individual words that are important for them to practice. Your child’s spelling notebook should always be kept in their book bag so they can practice at school and at home.

In the near Future:
* We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February, 14 2017. More information will be shared soon.
* We will be celebrating the 100th day of school very soon. Note: We are planning for this to be on Wednesday, February 15th. Get ready because your child is invited to dress as 100 year old person. Here are a few ideas from last year

Thanks for your continued support!

Ms. Wright

Here are some pictures taken last week during our Hands-on Science Stations:

Week of January 16, 2017

Dear Families,

I am trying to be ahead of the game on this Friday. Here is what you need to know for next week in our kindergarten class:

Words of the Week: on they

Poem of the Week: Freedom, Freedom

Monday: No School! Enjoy the day off!

Tuesday: Please return Nightly Literacy Homework, library book and Poetry Journal. We will be taking the NWEA test in the morning. This is the same test we took at the beginning of the year in the computer lab. We will go to the Media Center to check out library books. The students will go to music with Mrs. Baloga.

Wednesday: We have a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) assembly in the afternoon.

Thursday: We will go to Music with Mrs. Baloga.

Friday: We will go to the computer lab with Mrs. Ackerman and gym with Mr. Murua.

Timeline Assignment: If your child hasn’t started their timeline project yet, please do so. I would advise doing a small amount of the project each night rather than trying to do the whole thing at once. (let’s save pulling an all-nighter for college! 🙂 Timelines are due on Wednesday, January 25th.

For the next two weeks, I will be assessing each child in every subject area. Therefore I will not be seeing your child in a small group for reading. Continue to practice books in the book bag, the ring of cards and stories on RAZ-Kids.

Have a great week!

Ms. Wright

Timeline Assignment!

Dear Families,

Today in your child’s red folder you will find the Kindergarten Timeline Assignment. We have made several timelines together in class and the students are ready to start!

In fact, Levi said “I am very enthusiastic to do my timeline!”

Here is a sample:

Timelines are due Wednesday, January 25th.

Have fun and good luck!
