Growing Alligators

Dear Families,

It all started with the book Zach’s Alligator!

Yes, the kindergarten Science Fair Boot Camp experiment will be sent home today.  Boy, were our kindergarten scientists ever excited!  Each day, I will model the experiment in class so your child should have a pretty good understanding of what to do each night.  The experiment takes 7 days  so you will want to start soon.  Yes, I will be taking “Bridget” the class alligator (and main character in the book) home even over the weekend and continue to post it growth on the blog.  In the past, we have found that kindergartners have had trouble with  measuring each alligator.  However, before you know it that we become easier too.

Here is Bridget on Day 1:  She is measuring at 4 1/2 inches long.

Science Investigation #2

Dear families,

Yesterday we investigated a variety of earth materials.  This time we conducted a “Roll a Ball” test.  The scientists, took a small sample of soil, clay, sand and gravel along with some water and attempted to roll each earth material into a ball.  Here are some of our results:

These groups discovered that “clay was the easiest one to roll into a ball” and “you can’t roll gravel into a ball!”  More picture to come, my camera ran out of memory!

Enjoy the day!

A Few More Things…

Dear Families,

As soon as I hit the publish button yesterday I knew there were a few more items to inform you.  Here you go:

  • A field trip permission slip will be sent home today in your child’s red folder.  The field trip is on Thursday, March 16th.  We are going to the Marquis Theater in Northville, MI to see Alice in Wonderland.  Then we will board the bus and head to Krispy Kreme Donuts in Allen Park.  This is where we will eat our own packed lunches and tour the donut making process.  The cost for the theater tickets and bus is $11.50.  It is due on Friday, March 10th so we can purchase tickets.  We need 5 chaperones to join us.  Chaperones will need to pay $7.50 for the theater tickets.
  • Lindbergh’s Running Club registration begins today.  Practice will begin on Tuesday, March 14 from 3:40 p.m.-4:30 p.m.  Practice will be every Tuesday and Thursday, weather permitting.  We will need volunteers, so please sign the bottom of the registration form if you are interested.
  • Our Kindergarten Science Fair Boot Camp Experiment will start on Wednesday, March 8th.  All materials will be sent home on Wednesday.  I will be modeling the experiment in class and posting what we are doing on the blog.  Have fun!

Until next time…

Few Things…

Dear Families,

We sure had a busy day in kindergarten today.  It started out at our “Brainstormers” assembly this morning.  Our own Molly did an outstanding job when asked to perform a skit on stage!

This afternoon, we started our Earth Science Unit.  The kindergarten scientists investigated different types of Earth Materials up close and personal.  Take a look:

After all the sand, soil, clay and gravel was cleaned up, we celebrated Evan’s birthday.  Happy Birthday Evan!

A Few More Things:

  •  Tomorrow is Game Day for our PBIS reward.  If your child would like to bring a board game to play during the reward, that would be great!
  • Mrs. Bungee was here this morning to help with individual spelling words but with the assembly and busy afternoon, not every child received them.  We will finish up tomorrow!
  • A March is Reading Month calendar went home today.  These are great activities for your child to do at home, however it is optional.
  • Science Fair Boot Camp is Tuesday, March 21 from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  The flyer that was sent home yesterday was incorrect.

That is all for now!

100th Day of School!

Dear Families!

Wow!  What a day we had on our 1ooth Day of Kindergarten!  The students were invited to dress as a 100-year old person and they did not disappoint!  Take a look at these hilarious pictures Aston’s mom (a.k.a. traci lovasz photography) took yesterday.

For snack these “elderly” kindergartners had to make a 100 piece snack.

We predicted what “100 drops of water” would look like.  Most everyone thought that the cup would overflow since “100 is a big number!”  But we observed that it barely covered the bottom of the cup.

We made our special “100th  Day of Kindergarten” crowns with our fifth grade helpers.

Now I know why there are not a lot of a 100 year old kindergarten teachers around.  I was exhausted!!

Valentine’s Day Party Photos!

Dear Families,

Thanks to everyone who donated items for our Valentine party on Tuesday.  The students had fun going through 5 different Valentine corners.  Thanks to Levi’s mom, Enna’s mom, Gianna’s dad, Lilly’s mom, Maggie and Molly’s mom, Dominic’s mom, MacKenzie’s mom, Aston’s mom, Jake’s mom, Aleksander’s mom, and Jacob’s dad for managing the stations.  Take a look of these incredible photos, courtesy of tracilovaszphotography.

Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!
