Investigation: Earth Materials

“Ms. Wright, I am sad when science is over!” said Olivia, an enthusiastic kindergarten scientist.

This is what she tells me after we finish our Earth Material Settling Test.  We conducted this experiment by putting four different earth materials into jumbo, kid-friendly test tubes along with some water.  Next, the scientists had fun shaking the test tubes up and observing whether the earth materials settled or not.  I was surprised how many students understood the concept of “settling”  by making the connection of hearing the popular phrase “settle down.”

Investigation of our Smear Test:  Kindergarten scientists conducted a “smear” test with four different earth materials.  They placed a small amount of each material to see if it would make a smear or not.  Ask your child about their findings.

Until next time….

You may start working on your science board as you go.  Here is a special example:

You may seem a resemblance to Jacob C. This is his big brother who is now a third grader!

Here is a great picture of Aleksander and Levi during corners making a special creation with our Plus Plus blocks.
