Dear Families,
I hope you are enjoying the long weekend! Here is what you need to know for this upcoming week:
Tuesday:
- Welcome our new student Martin to our class! He is coming from Long Elementary in Dearborn. We are excited to meet you. We have 25 students in our class. Sadly, Nicklas moved away but we wish him good luck at his new school.
- Please make sure that your child returns his/her library book. Our weekly check out day and time is on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. During a full week of school, your child will return their books on Mondays. It is much easier if the books are all checked-in before we go to the Media Center. At my own house, my sons always keep their library books in their backpacks. Whenever they are finished reading them, they place the books in their backpacks so they don’t get mixed up with all of our own personal books. It works well for us.
- Letter Books will be sent home today. This week’s letters are T and t. The boys and girls love sharing their letter books with the class. Letter books are due on Friday.
- Kindergarten Field Trip information and permission slips will be sent home today. If you are interested in chaperoning for this trip, please indicate so on the bottom of the permission slip. Your background check must be approved in order for you to go. If you can’t go on this field trip, there will be other field trips planned in the future.
- We will go to Music and Art today.
- Please find some headphones for your child today. They need to be in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name.
Wednesday:
- Raz-Kids: your child will be coming home with login information today. Raz-Kids is an on-line leveled book website. Your child will have assess to thousands of books that are right at their level. Your child can either read the book or listen to the story. Afterwards, they take a short comprehension quiz. My last year class used Raz-Kids all summer long. Reading on Raz-Kids can count towards their Nightly Reading Homework. Plus, it is great practice for our class to read and answer questions on the computer, which is something we need to do for upcoming assessments. I paid for the one-year subscription out of my own pocket last December and found it to be money well spent! The Lindbergh PTA has talked about purchasing Ras-Kids for the classrooms this year. If you like Raz-Kids, please let the PTA know.
- Please find some headphones for your child today. They need to be in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name.
- We will go to music today.
Thursday:
- I will be out today for the next Science Leader training. Mrs. Miller will be our guest teacher today. She is an outstanding teacher and is excellent with our students!
- Please find some headphones for your child today. They need to be in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name.
Friday:
- Letter Books are due today.
- It is gym day, please have your child wear his/her gym shoes today.
- Please find some headphones for your child today. They need to be in a ziplock, labeled with your child’s name.
October PBIS Information:
Each month your child needs to stay on green 80% of the month in order to be invited to attend the PBIS reward. For the month of October that means your child cannot move their clip five or more times. For the students who either never moved their clip or did so 4 or less times, will receive a special reward during the school day. For the students who moved their clip 5 or more times, during the month, they will go to the reteaching room where they will learn strategies to help them improve their behavior in the classroom. If you see your child’s behavior chart getting close to 5 clip changes, please remind them that they need to make better choices so they can attend the reward, I will be telling them the same thing in class. This can be confusing at first for kindergartners. They typically think that if they were on green on the reward day, they can go but it is really about their behavior for the whole month. This will be easier to understand as time goes on in kindergarten.
Have a great week!
Ms. Wright
