Safety

The safety of all of our students at William Ford is most important to us.  During arrival and dismissal, please make sure you follow these safety precautions;

Please keep Alber and Ternes free for traffic to flow in both directions.

Do not double park, even momentarily, to drop off or pick up a student.

Do not park, even momentarily, by or near the cones.

Only drop off your child on the school side curb.  It is very dangerous for your child to cross the street with cars coming in both directions.

Make certain your child is buckled up before you drive away.

Students and Safety First!  Consider parking a block away and walking with your child to avoid the congestion…plus, it is a healthy alternative!

Coming Soon…Walk to School Day is October 10th!  Our goal is 100% participation!

Writer’s Workshop

Everyday we have been practicing the skills that are needed to become fabulous writers! We have been working hard creating an illustration with many details and labels. Students are working on writing the initial (beginning) sound (see picture).

We have also been working on holding the pencil the correct way! Please practice this at home too!

PBIS

William Ford implements the PBIS program. Students start their day on green. Making an inappropriate choice will earn them a card flip.

Yellow: Warning

Orange: Think Sheet (reflecting on their behavior choices)

Blue: Parent contact or loss of privledge

Red: Office referral

Students that make green choices will participate in a monthly reward party!

Please see the calendar in the back of your child’s folder to see what color their day ended on. We will start recording colors on Monday.

Snack

Studies have proven that when chosen properly, snacks can provide children with an extra boost to their mental skills. For this reason, your child will have a daily snack time in the morning in which he/she will be able to eat a healthy snack. As a result, I encourage  you to send a small snack every day.

Our snack time should take no more than 10 minutes and will be eaten in the classroom, so please keep that in mind when planning what to send. Also, foods requiring minimal clean up are best!

Some snack ideas that students seem to enjoy include: crackers, pretzels, cereal, string cheese, raisins, fruit, veggies, etc… Please note that candy, soda, cakes, fruit snack, and greasy or finger-coloring chips are not permitted.

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. We know that the students rumbling tummies thank you as well!
