Study Guide for The U.S. in Spatial Terms Unit Test
- Students need to know the four cardinal directions (north, south, east and west) and intermediate directions (northeast, southeast, northwest and southwest) and be able to describe movement in all directions.
- Example: In which direction will you have to travel to drive from Michigan to Florida?
- Students need to be able to read special purpose maps. Use the Social Studies textbook and the Student Handbook, both available on the Google classroom, for practice.
- Students need to study the physical features map of the U.S. Students have it.
- Students need to know that climate is weather over time. They also need to know the climate of different regions of the U.S.
- Students need to know where Detroit is located.
- Students need to know the questions geographers ask. They have a handout and can also find it in the Student Handbook.
- Students need to know all the “belt” regions of the U. S.
- Students need to be able to describe the characteristics geographers use to divide the U. S. into regions
- Students need to know the characteristics that Michigan has in common with other states in the midwest region.
