I hope everyone has a wonderful break and that you are able to spend time with family and friends!

Homework over break: IXL Language and Math

The students have several lessons that I have marked for completion. The goal is to have a minimum of 85% correct on any assignment. The program will instruct students if they answer a question incorrectly. All students need to read carefully after they see “sorry, that’s incorrect”. If they complete the starred topics, they may choose additional topics.

Fortnite and classroom behaviors!

This afternoon I had a conversation with all the students about Fortnite and the impact it is having on students’ learning and how they treat each other. For the entire week and some of last week as well, several students have entered the classroom yelling and/or arguing about the game. Today, I had students screaming about it. The game is rated for teens and of course it is up to all of you if you will allow your child to play and how much or how long. It seems as if some are obsessed with it.

When we come back after the break, the expectation is that all conversations about scores or game performance, celebration dances and anything else related to the game needs to stay at home. The students having the most trouble making good choices are the students who are really involved in the game and don’t seem able to separate it from school expectations or learning.
We have so much to accomplish before the end of fourth grade and we really don’t have time to waste on arguments about that game.
