Room 10 Notes and News

Hello parents,
I collected the ziplock book bags today. I will replace both the book bag and the books on Monday. So, for the weekend reading and reading response, students may use their library books.
Students received a reading response notebook today. It has the directions and the expectations glued inside the front and back covers. On Monday, I will check planners and reading response notebooks.

Next week, on Tuesday we will review math lessons 1 – 10. The mid-module assessment is scheduled for Wednesday. This is the first math test for the year.

Great First Week!

The students have done an amazing job learning new routines and are ready to start fourth grade work!

Today, I am sending book bags with the students. These bags have a selection of books based on your child’s third grade reading scores. The students will read these levels until I finish assessing their current reading level. The students need to carry the books home every night for reading and bring them back to school every day.  I will send new books home at the end of every week. This selection of books is for both reading instruction and reading at home. Sometimes the students will have specific pages or books to read. The students will always know when there is assigned reading for them.  I will collect these books on Thursday, September 5 and send new books home on Friday, September 6.

Reading is critical to your child’s success in fourth grade. All students should read at least 30 minutes each day. Until your child has built up stamina, have them read for 10 or 15 minutes at a time for a total of 30 minutes.

Welcome to Fourth Grade

Well, our first day is over and I am looking forward to a great year. I’ve sent home notes in the students’ green folders. Please check the folder daily to see homework assignments and important notes from school.

There is one form to complete and send back to school tomorrow. I have included the questions to help me get to know your child. Most importantly, please let me know your preferred method of communication. Send the completed paper back as soon as you are able.

I am so happy that your child is a fourth grade student in my classroom. I am looking forward to a busy, productive and fun school year. The beginning of the year can be stressful for all of us as we learn about each other and create a positive learning community. In order to ease some of the worry, I’d like to share some information about myself. Although this is my fourth year at River Oaks, this is my fifteenth year teaching! I have taught fourth, fifth and sixth grade in the past and am thrilled to be part of the fourth grade team. I have a large family, three daughters, two step sons and five granddaughters. My dog Sophie is my favorite pet. When I have free time I enjoy sewing, knitting and reading.

It is important that we start the new school year on the right foot. I expect that all students will put forth his or her best effort every day by participating in class and by completing all in class and homework assignments. In order to make my classrooms the best place for everyone to learn, I will ensure that the students are safe and are provided with exciting opportunities to explore new ideas and ask questions. In addition, I need your help! As a team we can help and encourage your child to achieve great things. Students should come to school on time and be prepared to work every day.

They will need to know and list all three branches of government, the key leader of each branch and the main responsibility of each branch.

Field Day is June 10, 2019

On Monday, June 10 we will have Field Day in the afternoon.

If you are available to help out with the class activities please send me a message. It’s mostly helping with game directions and moving the students from one station to another. I would need to have at least 3 more parents. Field Day is a bunch of really fun outdoor activities. The kids love it! Please send me a message if you can help!!
