I hope everybody is staying healthy and active the best they can. Part of maintaining healthy lifestyles is the food we put in our bodies everyday – “Food in is energy out”. The healthier our diets are, the more sustained energy both physically and mentally we will produce on a daily basis.

Daily PE break – Get Moving, Get Dancing!

For those of you DANCE-AMANIACS try these dances out and attempt to keep up with the kids bop crew. Dancing is a great form of exercise for all ages. If you are a bashful dancer like myself, don’t worry, nobody is watching you if you try these out in the comforts of your own home! Elementary Fitness Grading Criteria

Here is the link to the elementary fitness testing criteria for all Dearborn Public School students. The testing protocol covers all 5 components of physical fitness including the 1/2 mile run, pushup/pull up test, sit and reach test, and 1 minute curl up/jump rope tests.

Feel free to test yourselves and log your results on a weekly or biweekly basis. Set small benchmarks. create goals, and reward yourself as you get faster, stronger, and more flexible!

At Home Fitness Ideas to Keep Kids Active

These could be a great option to play games/exercise as a family, serve as a study break ,or even a “get off the ipad/video games” break…

Active Lifestyles Promote Healthy Students

The weather is warming up and the days are getting longer. While we pause from our normal school routines over the next month in an effort to stay safe and healthy, please make a daily effort to stay active and stay moving when possible. Whether you are heading out to the park, soccer field, neighborhood bike ride, walking the dog, or shooting hoops with the neighborhood kids it all counts and it all promotes healthy immune systems.

I encourage every student to participate in this 10-15 minute exercise routine every day prior to heading out to play. These exercise can be done in the comforts of your own home and/or outside on a nice spring day.

1. Scissor Kicks ( 3 sets of 20 reps)
2. Ski Jumpers (3 sets of 20 reps)
3. Jumping Jacks (3 sets of 20 reps)
4. Mountain Climbers (1 set of 30 reps)
5. ABC Shoulder Touches (A-Z)
6. Push Ups ( 3 sets of 5 – 20 reps)
7. Superman Holds ( 2 sets of 30 seconds)
8. Plank Holds ( 2 sets of 30 seconds)
9. Body Squats (3 sets of 10 reps)
10. Burpees ( 2 sets of 10 reps)

Remember to wear the proper clothing and shoes while exercising. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and eat the colors of the plate for a healthy and balanced diet. What you put in is what you get out.

Defeat sedentary lifestyles with strong minds/bodies through a daily dose of physical activity, exercise, and game play!

Parent University

Good morning,

Parent University has begun and is taking place at many locations. Long Elementary would be the closest one for our families.

Who: Parents and their children ages 6 months-4 years old

When: 9:00-10:00am (Fridays)

What: Parents and children will engage in a variety of activities lead by Dearborn’s GSRP PreK and Kids Work It Out staff

Why: Why not? Have fun and learn new ideas to support your child’s development!

Mini Martian Marathon

Permission slips and information on this years Mini Martian Marathon run will be sent home this week. The race is sure to be a fun family event that brings out the healthy competitive side of all our students. Details will be included on the permission slips sent home.
