Remember: even though I am sharing more than one activity, you only have to do one. If you want to do more than one activity, do only one activity at a time. Do not push your child to do too much at one time. These are activities for you to enjoy time together, not to fight over learning.

Ms. Unis and I are here for you if you need us! Please reach out to us about anything you need. We are all in this together. Send a message through Remind, even if it is Arabic, and Ms. Unis or I can respond. We will be available to answer you during normal school days and hours; Monday-Thursday 8:00 am-3:00 pm. If you message before or after those times, we will answer you the next day during those times.

Main Idea	Names
Literacy Activity (10 minutes)	Have your child write their name 5 times, in 5 different colors if you have them.  *Make sure your child writes their first letter uppercase and all other letters lowercase.* Challenge: Have your child also write their last name 5 times in 5 colors. Challenge: Have your child write names of family members; mom, dad, brothers, sisters, cousins.
Math Activity (10 minutes)	Have your child read or write their name on a sheet of paper.  Count how many letters are in their name, write that number on the paper. Challenge: Have your child count all the number of letters in their first name and last name together, writing that number on the paper. Challenge: Have your child count letters in other names, like brothers and sisters.  Compare the number of letters in everyone’s name and talk about whose name has the most letters and whose name has the least letters.
Play Activity (Work Time) (1 hour or more)	Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”  Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets).  It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.   Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play.  Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with. It should not be your job to clean up after your child. End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?” *Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different.  It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*
Extra Activity (10 minutes)	Spell your child’s name and have them do the movements that are listed next to each letter in their name.  They can also do movements of the spelling of other people’s names; brothers, sisters, friends, and cousins.

Today I am starting to share more activities with you to help give you more ideas of things to do with your child. You do not have to do all of these activities. You really need to just choose 1 or 2 to do with your child, but if your child is interested and wants to do more, then do more.

Your child is 4 years old and does not need to be working all day long. A few minutes (like 10-15 minutes) focused on one activity at a time is all they should be doing. Do not do all of these activities all at one time. The best plan for you and your child is to do one or two in the morning, then do another one or two in the afternoon, and finish the day with one. Only do all of these activities if your child is interested.

Please use this time at home with your child to enjoy your time together. Do not feel the pressure that you need to teach them all day long. Enjoy your time today by having fun, not by fighting to get an activity done. Some days may be better than others. Some days your child may want to work hard and really do the activities , while another day they may have no interest at all. That is ok, we are all doing the best we can.

Main Idea	5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
Literacy Activity	Have your child listen to the story of The 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjMBxiSGkxY&t=310s After listening to the story, talk with your child about what they remember happening in the story.  Ask questions like the following: * What did the monkeys do to get ready for bed? * What did they do after their mom said ‘good night’? * Who did mom call when the monkeys fell down? * What did the doctor tell the monkeys to do? * What did mom do after she put all the monkeys back to bed?
Math Activity	Have your child watch the video of 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed and have them count down with the video.  Have them say the number of monkeys left jumping on the bed when the number is showing on the screen. youtube.com/watch?v=CkGrKW7D29c
Play Activity	Have your child use items around the house to build a bed.  They could use blankets and pillows, or legos, or shoe boxes, or leaves and sticks from outside.  Then have them use some of their toys to pretend to jump on the bed. They could use animals, dinosaurs, dolls, cars, anything they would like. Send me pictures!  I would love to see what they create. *It is ok if the kids turn this into their own activity.  The important part is they are being creative and using their imagination.  They should be having at least 1 hour of free play time everyday with no screen (no TV, no tablet), just toys.
Extra Activity	Have your child draw their own picture of monkeys jumping on the bed (or anything they would like to jump on the bed). Challenge: Have your child count how many monkeys (or whatever they drew) are on the bed.  Have them write that number on the picture. They could draw other pictures with different numbers jumping on the bed. Challenge: Have your child write a sentence, or a story, about what is happening in the picture.

Hello Families!  It was nice hearing from all of you and one common issue I saw was needing more activities to do at home.  That is my plan for next week, and for going forward, is to give you more ideas of things to do at home.  With having more activities, it is going to be hard to post in both English and Arabic.  However, I have learned that the blog page will translate for you.  I am posting the directions and pictures of how to get the page translated into Arabic below.

First, scroll all the way to the bottom of the blog page.  There you should see a while rectangle with a colorful G and Select Language (like I have boxed in yellow on the picture).

Gather coins, silverware, or any collection of items your child can make a pattern with. There needs to be 2 or 3 different types. 

Extend pattern– create a repeating pattern for your child (Penny, quarter, Penny, quarter or fork, spoon, fork, spoon) then have your child add to the pattern to keep it going

Create repeating pattern- give your child 2 different items (spoons and forks or pennies and dimes) then have them create a repeating pattern like fork, spoon, fork, spoon or penny, dime, penny, dime

Create a complex pattern- give your child 3 items (penny, dime, quarter or fork, spoon, knife) and have them make a pattern like penny, dime, quarter, penny, dime, quarter or fork, spoon, knife, fork, spoon, knife. They can also create a pattern with 2 items like dime, penny, penny, dime, penny, penny or fork, fork, spoon, fork, fork, spoon. 

Since you have 2 or 3 different types of items, you can have your child sort the items into the different groups, like pennies, dimes, quarters or forks, spoons, knifes.

اجمع القطع النقدية أو الأواني الفضية أو أي مجموعة من العناصر التي يمكن لطفلك ان يصمم نمطا لها .
⁃ يجب ان يكون هناك نوعان أو ٣ أنواع مختلفة .
⁃ توسيع النمط : قم بإنشاء نمط متكرر لطفلك ( بيني ، دايم ، ربع، بيني، دايم ربع، أو ملعقة ، شوكة ، ملعقة ، شوكة ) ثم اجعل طفلك يضيف إلى النمط للحفاظ على استمراره .

The activity is to go along with storytime, so you can do it before storytime or after, I want you and your child to go on a button hunt. Go around the house and find different things that have buttons on them. It could be pants, shirts, toys, or coats. Count how many buttons are on each different thing you find. You can keep track of how many buttons you find and then count and add to know how many you found all together.

The children can also draw a picture of Pete the Cat with his buttons, or draw a picture of themselves with buttons.

Listen to the Silly Sally read aloud with your child. Then help your child complete the activity I sent you (feel free to do the others as well, if you would like). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1Ia6wmmraI

Remembering the story – Talk with your child about what happened in the story. Ask the following questions;

• What animals did Silly Sally see?
• What did each animal do?
• How did Silly Sally get to town?
• What did the people in town do when Silly Sally got there?

Finding the rhyming words – Go back with your child and find the rhyming words in the story. The rhyming pairs are town/down, pig/jig, dog/leapfrog (frog), loon/tune, sheep/asleep, buttercup (cup)/up.

More rhyming words – Go back with your child and find the rhyming word pairs (the pairs are listed in the activity above). Then have your child name 2 or 3 more words that rhyme with those words. Example town, down, frown, brown or dog, frog, log, bog.

Things to know

Tomorrow I will be having a Zoom storytime with the kids. I will be having these Storytimes on Wednesdays at 1:30. I am making them a later time to fit with my kids schedule as well as working with Ramadan coming up. Zoom has added having a password to meetings, I will send the password to you through Remind. This helps keep our meetings just for us and no one else. Our meeting number is 674-190-6721.

I will be sending a link for a survey of what you need while at home. We need everyone to fill out this survey. It will be in both English and Arabic. Anyone that we do not get a response from, we will be calling to check in on and complete the survey with over the phone.

I hope you enjoyed your Spring Break with your families last week. I hope you had time to enjoy each other and relax without the pressure of school. I know I spent time with my kids playing and doing different crafts. I did miss seeing pictures of my students and chatting with them. I hope to have another storytime and chat this week. 

To start off the week, and to get back into the routine, we will have a more simple activity. Watch the following YouTube video for the children to move their bodies and write the uppercase letters in the air. We have done this video in the classroom, so hopefully they remember. If you want to extend their learning after they watch the video, have them practice writing their uppercase letters on paper. As most of you probably know, we will not be returning to school for the rest of year. It is very heart breaking and sad. I have truly enjoyed the time I have spent with your kids and was looking forward to so much more. Even though we won’t be going back to the classroom does not mean the school year is over. I am still your child’s teacher and I am still going to be here to help your child learn and grow. 

Next week is Spring Break and I want you to take the week off and be a family. Have fun together doing things you like to do. Play games, cook together, play outside, go for walks, talk to family and friends on the phone, anything that brings you happiness and joy. When we come back from Spring Break I will be here with activities and resources for your kids as well as hopefully a plan to do a weekly meeting for a read aloud. 

We have a zoom meeting this afternoon at 1:00 (meeting number 674 190 6721).  I look forward to seeing the kids faces and hearing their voices, I plan to read to them as well. If there is anything at all you need or want to talk about please let me know, I am here for you during this unusual time.

Name writing – write your child’s name on a paper like seen in the link, leaving more and more spaces for the child to write their own letters. Water writing – get a cup or bowl and fill with some water then sit at a table. Have your child dip finger in the water and then write the different letters of the alphabet. You can have your child looking at the letters to know how to write them or you can just name a letter and have your child write that letter. Can practice writing uppercase and lowercase letters.

Zoom Meeting Tomorrow

I am planning a Zoom meeting for tomorrow, Friday April 3. I am going to make it for a later time and do it at 1:00. I hope to see the kids before our week off for Spring Break.

Today is Farm day! 

Show your child the picture of the farm and have them name different animals that live on the farm. Talk with your child about how each animal would move and have them do that movement.  Call out the different animals and have your child move around like that animal.
