Tuesday May 26, 2020

I hope everyone had a great long weekend. I hope you had a happy Eid and Memorial Day and were able to spend time together as a family celebrating. The activities today are a bit simpler to help get back into the learning at home. Remember to please send me pictures of what your child is working on and learning at home so I can see them.

Main Idea:  Letters and Numbers

Literacy Activity (10 minutes):  Watch the Jack Hartmann video with the link below.  Have your child move their bodies along with the video to practice writing lowercase letters.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRrYgWH8ffw

Math Activity (10 minutes):  Have your child make collections of items of different numbers.  Go outside and write the numbers on the driveway or sidewalk and have your child find items outside; like rocks, leaves – like the pictures below.  This can also be done inside by writing the numbers on a sheet of paper and your child could make the collections with the beans or cubes. – Use numbers they are learning 1-10, 11-20, 20+ (Send pictures to Mrs. Vasas)

Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):

Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”

Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets).  It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.

Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play.  Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with.  It should not be your job to clean up after your child.

End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”

*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different.  It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*

Extra Activity (10 minutes):  Practice uppercase letters by moving along to the uppercase letter workout song, which we have done before.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE-ljfAmZis&t=55s
