Main Idea: Rhyming and measuring
Literacy Activity (10 minutes): Watch and move along to the ‘Exercise, Rhyme, and Freeze’ song by Jack Hartmann. Have your child say the rhyming words along with the song.
Challenge: Have your child name more words that rhyme with the words from the song.
Math Activity (10 minutes): Use cubes to build tall and short towers. Have your child compare the cubes and sort them into a tall pile and a short pile. (Send Mrs. Vasas a picture of the tall and short cube towers)
Challenge: Have your child measure different items around the house with the cube towers. Have them find something that is 1 cube long, 2 cubes long, 3 cubes long, etc. (Send Mrs. Vasas a picture of measuring different items)
Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):
Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”
Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets). It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.
Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play. Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with. It should not be your job to clean up after your child.
End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”
*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different. It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*
Extra Activity (10 minutes): Choose a page or two from the worksheet packet for your child to do. If no worksheets are left, find some junk mail or scrap paper and allow your child to practice cutting with the scissors.
