Main Idea:  Learning to use our materials

Literacy Activity (10 minutes):  Journal writing, use the sight word sheet to write the start of a sentence ‘I like to play…’ and have your child finish the sentence.  Have your child watch the video to be reminded how we write in our journals. Send Mrs. Vasas a picture of the journal page

Math Activity (10 minutes): Make shapes with the beans.  Use the beans to create different shapes (look at the picture below).  Begin by making the shapes circle, triangle, square first; then try making the shapes rectangle, oval, diamond.  Send Mrs. Vasas a picture of the shapes made

Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):

Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”

Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets).  It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.

Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play.  Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with.  It should not be your job to clean up after your child.

End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”

*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different.  It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*

Extra Activity (10 minutes):  Use the extra materials from their packs.

  • Practice writing uppercase and lowercase with the dry erase marker.
  • Practice spelling first and last name with their name puzzles.
  • Use materials that are for them (color matching or sight word books)
