Main Idea: Building Skills
Literacy Activity (10 minutes): On a sheet of paper write uppercase letters on one side and lowercase letters on the other (like the picture below). You can do just the letters in your child’s name, your child’s first and last name letters, any 10-13 letters, or the whole alphabet (depending on what your child knows). Then have your child draw a line matching the uppercase letter to the lowercase letter.
Math Activity (10 minutes): Have your child watch the Jack Hartmann video to practice counting to 100 and to move their bodies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgLtF3PMOc&t=2s
Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):
Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”
Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets). It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.
Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play. Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with. It should not be your job to clean up after your child.
End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”
*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different. It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*
Extra Activity (10 minutes): Have your child sing along with and make the letter sounds for each letter in the alphabet.
Create letter cards, have your child pick a letter card and do the movement that goes along with that letter.
