Here is a link with helpful information to know about how to help your child move from preschool (GSRP) to Kindergarten and Young 5. Click on the link and look through the slides. Ms. Unis and I will be talking about it with you during our phone call this week. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1FZTWOot93qAaJPMf_ws2a1ho3_Z9qPu6xdW8pvB5wu4/edit?usp=sharing

Main Idea: 5 Little Monkeys Swinging in the Tree

Literacy Activity (10 minutes):  Watch the video of the song 5 Little Monkeys Swinging in the Tree.  Then have your child draw a picture of 5 monkeys in a tree and have them write the sentence ‘5 monkeys swinging in a tree.’ (Send Mrs. Vasas a picture of your child’s drawing and writing)

Math Activity (10 minutes):  Make collections of 5 items, 4 items, 3 items, 2 items, 1 item.  You could use the cubes, the beans, or anything else they can count.  (Send Mrs. Vasas a picture of your child’s different collections)

Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):

Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”

Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets).  It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.

Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play.  Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with.  It should not be your job to clean up after your child.

End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”

*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different.  It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*

Extra Activity (10 minutes):  Practice writing letters, numbers, names, sight words by writing in shaving cream (like the picture below).  If you do not have shaving cream, use some flour or salt on the table.
