Ms. Unis and I will be making our video calls and phone calls this week. If you want to set up a video call with me, please let me or Ms. Unis know so we can schedule one.
Main Idea: Writing and Shapes
Literacy Activity (10 minutes): Write name (first and last name) on a sheet of paper, have your child spell over the name using cereal pieces, fruit snacks, candy, or the beans (see the picture below). (Send pictures of the writing to Mrs. Vasas)
Challenge: Write out sight words for your child to spell.
Challenge: Have your child create their own letters or numbers using the cereal, fruit snacks, candy, or the beans.
Math Activity (10 minutes): Create a shape hopscotch outside. Draw a line of different shapes (heart, circle, triangle, square, diamond, rectangle, oval). Have your child jump from shape to shape naming the different shapes they are jumping on. (Send pictures of the shapes to Mrs. Vasas)
Challenge: Describe the a shape, naming its features (example: has 4 sides that are all the same size-square, has 3 sides-triangle), then have your child jump to the shape you are describing.
Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):
Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”
Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets). It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.
Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play. Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with. It should not be your job to clean up after your child.
End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”
*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different. It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*
Extra Activity (10 minutes): Shadow tracing/drawing outside. Take toys and paper or chalk outside. Have your child trace the toys’ shadow onto the paper or onto the sidewalk/driveway. You could also trace the shadows of people. See the pictures below. (Send pictures of shadow drawings to Mrs. Vasas)
