Ms. Unis and I will be calling tomorrow to check in and talk with you about setting up a video chat. I would like to see all the students one last time before the end of the school year so I would like to do a video chat with all the students. Ms. Unis and I will be talking with you about what would be best way to video chat (FaceTime on iPhone, Google Duo, or sending an email for a meeting on the computer or tablet).
Main Idea: Shapes and Letters
Literacy Activity (10 minutes): Have your child go on a letter hunt. Write letters (uppercase, lowercase, or both) on small pieces of paper. Hide or place the pieces around the house. Have your child go and find the letters and name what letter they found.
Challenge: Write sight words on small pieces of paper and hide those around the house. Have your child read each sight word as they find them.
Math Activity (10 minutes): Play shape bingo! Create a board with different shapes (like the picture below). Say the name of a shape and have your child cover that shape using a cube or a bean. When your child has covered every shape on their board, they can yell “BINGO” and you could start over.
Challenge: You could make the shapes different colors as well so they need to find the shape and the color, like yellow triangle, blue square, green triangle.
Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):
Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”
Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets). It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.
Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play. Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with. It should not be your job to clean up after your child.
End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”
*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different. It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*
Extra Activity (10 minutes): Work on patterns by having your child move along with the patterns in the song ‘Banana, Banana, Meatball.’ – We have done this song in the classroom and the kids love it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ9q4U2P3ig&t=15s
