Main Idea: Goodnight Gorilla
Literacy Activity (10 minutes): Watch the story video of ‘Goodnight Gorilla’ and have your child tell the story while watching the video. Help by asking “What is the gorilla doing?” “What is happening now?”
Math Activity (10 minutes): Sort cubes into groups by color. Have your child name each color of the group. (Send Mrs. Vasas a picture of the sorted groups)
Challenge: Have your child find something else around the house that matches the colors of the different color groups.
Challenge: Have your child sort other items (their toys, coins, silverware) and have them name the different groups.
Play Activity/Work Time (1 hour or more):
Start (Plan): Ask your child “What would you like to do today?”
Play (Do): Allow your child to play for at least 1 hour of free play time with their toys (no screens-no TV, no tablets). It is important for your child to have time to be creative and use their imagination.
Clean-Up: Provide a warning before it is time for your child to clean up, so they can bring an end to their play. Then have them clean up, or help clean up, the toys they were playing with. It should not be your job to clean up after your child.
End (Review): Ask your child “What did you do today?”
*Mention what they told you at the start and see if they did do that or if they chose to do something different. It is ok if they change their mind and do something different.*
Extra Activity (10 minutes): Use toilet paper rolls to have your child practice cutting (see the picture below).
